Hebrews 2
Pay Attention
1For this reason we must pay much closer attention to 1what we have heard, so that 2we do not drift away from it. 2For if the word 3spoken through 4angels proved 5unalterable, and 6every violation and act of disobedience received a just 78punishment, 39how will we escape if we neglect so great a 10salvation? 11After it was at first 12spoken through the Lord, it was 13confirmed to us by those who heard, 4God also testifying with them, both by 14signs and wonders, and by 15various 16miracles and by 1718gifts of the Holy Spirit 19according to His own will.
Earth Subject to Man
5For He did not subject to angels 2021the world to come, about which we are speaking. 6But someone has testified 22somewhere, saying, “23What is man, that You think of him? Or a son of man, that You are concerned about him?724You have made him 25for a little while lower than angels; You have crowned him with glory and honor26;827You have put everything in subjection under his feet.” For in subjecting all things to him, He left nothing that is not subject to him. But now 28we do not yet see all things subjected to him.
Jesus Briefly Humbled
9But we do see Him who was 29made 30for a little while lower than the angels, namely, Jesus, 31because of His suffering death 32crowned with glory and honor, so that 33by the grace of God He might 34taste death 35for everyone.
10For 36it was fitting for Him, 37for whom are all things, and through whom are all things, in bringing many sons to glory, to 38perfect the 3940originator of their salvation through sufferings. 11For both He who 41sanctifies and those who 42are 43sanctified are all 44from one Father; for this reason He is not ashamed to call them 45brothers and sisters, 12saying, “46I will proclaim Your name to My brothers, In the midst of the assembly I will sing Your praise.” 13And again, “47I will put My trust in Him.” And again, “48Behold, I and the children whom God has given Me.”
14Therefore, since the children share in 4950flesh and blood, 51He Himself likewise also partook of the same, so that 52through death He might destroy 53the one who has the power of death, that is, the devil, 15and free those who through 54fear of death were subject to slavery all their lives. 16For clearly He does not 55give help to angels, but He gives help to the 56descendants of Abraham. 17Therefore, in all things He 57had 58to be made like His brothers so that He might 59become a merciful and faithful 60high priest in 61things pertaining to God, to 62make 63propitiation for the sins of the people. 18For since He Himself was 6465tempted in that which He has suffered, He is able to come to the aid of those who are 66tempted.
