Hebrews 11:8-19

8By faith 1Abraham, when he was called, obeyed 2by going out to a place which he was to 3receive for an inheritance; and he left, not knowing where he was going. 9By faith he lived as a stranger in 4the land of promise, as in a foreign land, 5living in tents with Isaac and Jacob, 6fellow heirs of the same promise; 10for he was looking for 7the city which has 8foundations, 9whose architect and builder is God. 11By faith even 10Sarah herself received 11ability to conceive, even beyond the proper time of life, since she considered Him 12faithful who had promised. 12Therefore even from one man, and 13one who was as good as dead 14at that, there were born descendants who were 15just as the stars of heaven in number, and as the innumerable grains of sand along the seashore.

1316All these died in faith, 17without receiving the promises, but 18having seen and welcomed them from a distance, and 19having confessed that they were strangers and exiles on the earth. 14For those who say such things make it clear that they are seeking a country of their own. 15And indeed if they had been 20thinking of that country which they left, 21they would have had opportunity to return. 16But as it is, they desire a better country, that is, a 22heavenly one. Therefore 23God is not 24ashamed to be 25called their God; for 26He has prepared a city for them.

17By faith 27Abraham, when he was tested, offered up Isaac, and the one who had 28received the promises was offering up his 29only son; 18it was he to whom it was said, “30Through Isaac your 31descendants shall be named.” 1932He considered that 33God is able to raise people even from the dead, from which he also received him back 34as a 3536type.
