Genesis 11:4-9
4And they said, “Come, let’s build ourselves a city, and a tower whose top 1will reach into heaven, and let’s make 2a name for ourselves; otherwise we 3will be scattered abroad over the face of all the earth.” 5Now 4the Lord came down to see the city and the tower which the 5men had built. 6And the Lord said, “Behold, they are one people, and they all have 67the same language. And this is what they have started to do, and now nothing which they plan to do will be 8impossible for them. 7Come, 910let Us go down and there 11confuse their 12language, so that they will not understand one another’s 13speech.” 8So the Lord 14scattered them abroad from there over the face of all the earth; and they stopped building the city. 9Therefore it was named 1516Babel, because there the Lord confused the 17language of all the earth; and from there the Lord scattered them abroad over the face of all the earth.
