Context of Ezekiel 7:11
9My eye will have no pity nor will I spare you. I will repay you according to your ways, while your abominations are in your midst; then you will know that I, the Lord, am striking. 10‘Behold, the day! Behold, it is coming! Your doom has gone forth; the rod has budded, arrogance has blossomed. Violence has grown into a rod of wickedness. None of them shall remain, none of their people, none of their wealth, nor anything eminent among them. 12The time has come, the day has arrived. Let neither the buyer rejoice nor the seller mourn; for wrath is against all their multitude. 13Indeed, the seller will not regain what he sold as long as they both live; for the vision regarding all their multitude will not be averted, nor will any of them maintain his life by his wrongdoing.

Commentaries on Ezekiel 7:11
- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 11Violence is risen, up into a rod of wickedness - The prophet continues his metaphor: "Pride has budded." - And what has it brought forth? Violence and iniquity. To meet these, the rod of God cometh. There is such a vast rapidity of succession in the ideas of the prophet that he cannot wait to find language to clothe each. Hence we have broken sentences; and, consequently, obscurity. Something must be supplied to get the sense, and most critics alter words…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 11Their violence has grown into a rod to punish their wickedness: The people’s violent actions had grown strong. Now that violence would turn against them. God would use their own sin to punish them. He would allow fighting and conflict to rise up among them (see Proverbs 6:27). Their wealth and prestige (honor and high position) could not save them. When destruction came like a powerful flood, these things would not protect them.Read the comment
