Context of Ezekiel 7:11
9My eye will not spare you nor will I have pity—I will repay you for your ways—your abominations are in your midst. Then you will know that it is I, Adonai, who strikes. 10Behold, the day! Look, it is coming! Doom has gone out. The rod has budded, arrogance has blossomed. Violence grows into a rod of wickedness. Nothing will come from them, nothing from their crowd, nothing from their tumult, nothing distinctive among them. 12The time has come—the day draws near. The buyer will not rejoice, the seller will not play the mourner, for wrath is on the entire crowd. 13For a seller will not regain what he sold, as long as they are alive. For the vision against her whole crowd will not be revoked. No one will preserve his life, because of his iniquity.

Commentaries on Ezekiel 7:11
- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 11Violence is risen, up into a rod of wickedness - The prophet continues his metaphor: "Pride has budded." - And what has it brought forth? Violence and iniquity. To meet these, the rod of God cometh. There is such a vast rapidity of succession in the ideas of the prophet that he cannot wait to find language to clothe each. Hence we have broken sentences; and, consequently, obscurity. Something must be supplied to get the sense, and most critics alter words…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 11Their violence has grown into a rod to punish their wickedness: The people’s violent actions had grown strong. Now that violence would turn against them. God would use their own sin to punish them. He would allow fighting and conflict to rise up among them (see Proverbs 6:27). Their wealth and prestige (honor and high position) could not save them. When destruction came like a powerful flood, these things would not protect them.Read the comment
