Context of Ezekiel 7:11
9My eye will not pity you; I will not spare you. For your behavior I will hold you accountable, and you will suffer the consequences of your abominable practices. Then you will know that it is I, the Lord, who is striking you. 10“Look, the day! Look, it is coming! Doom has gone out! The staff has budded, pride has blossomed! Violence has grown into a staff that supports wickedness. Not one of them will be left – not from their crowd, not from their wealth, not from their prominence. 12The time has come; the day has struck! The customer should not rejoice, nor the seller mourn; for divine wrath comes against their whole crowd. 13The customer will no longer pay the seller while both parties are alive, for the vision against their whole crowd will not be revoked. Each person, for his iniquity, will fail to preserve his life.

Commentaries on Ezekiel 7:11
- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 11Violence is risen, up into a rod of wickedness - The prophet continues his metaphor: "Pride has budded." - And what has it brought forth? Violence and iniquity. To meet these, the rod of God cometh. There is such a vast rapidity of succession in the ideas of the prophet that he cannot wait to find language to clothe each. Hence we have broken sentences; and, consequently, obscurity. Something must be supplied to get the sense, and most critics alter words…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 11Their violence has grown into a rod to punish their wickedness: The people’s violent actions had grown strong. Now that violence would turn against them. God would use their own sin to punish them. He would allow fighting and conflict to rise up among them (see Proverbs 6:27). Their wealth and prestige (honor and high position) could not save them. When destruction came like a powerful flood, these things would not protect them.Read the comment
