Context of Exodus 29:33
31“Now you shall take the ram of ordination and boil its flesh in a holy place. 32Then Aaron and his sons shall eat the flesh of the ram and the bread that is in the basket, at the doorway of the tent of meeting. So they shall eat those things by which atonement was made at their ordination and consecration; but a layman shall not eat them, because they are holy. 34And if any of the flesh of ordination or any of the bread remains until morning, then you shall burn the remainder with fire; it shall not be eaten, because it is holy. 35“So you shall do for Aaron and for his sons, according to all that I have commanded you; you shall ordain them for seven days.

- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 33atonement: Traditionally, atonement has often been explained as a “covering over.” This means that sin is covered so it no longer stands between God and people. Some modern scholars connect the word to another Semitic root (a related word family from ancient Middle Eastern languages). That root does not appear elsewhere in the Hebrew Bible. Based on that idea, they understand the word to mean “blot out,” “erase,” or “cleanse.” In both views, the result is…Read the comment

In short, they were taught to know that the service was for them as well as for the people; and every time they engaged in a new…Read the comment
