1 Timothy 6:4-20

4he is 1conceited and understands nothing; but he 2has a sick craving for 3controversial questions and 4disputes about words, from which come envy, strife, abusive language, evil suspicions, 5and constant friction between 5people of depraved mind and deprived of the truth, who 6suppose that 7godliness is a means of gain. 68But godliness actually is a means of 9great gain when accompanied by 10contentment. 7For 11we have brought nothing into the world, so we cannot take anything out of it, either. 8If we 12have food and 13covering, with these we shall be content. 914But those who want to get rich fall into temptation and 15a trap, and many foolish and harmful desires which plunge people into ruin and destruction. 10For 16the love of money is a root of all 17sorts of evil, and some by longing for it have 18wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many 19griefs.

11But 20flee from these things, you 21man of God, and pursue righteousness, godliness, 22faith, 23love, 24perseverance, and gentleness. 1225Fight the good fight of 26faith; 27take hold of the eternal life 28to which you were called, and for which you made the good 29confession in the presence of 30many witnesses. 1331I direct you in the presence of God, who 32gives life to all things, and of 33Christ Jesus, who testified the 34good confession 35before Pontius Pilate, 14that you keep the commandment without 36fault or reproach until the 37appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ, 15which He will 38bring about at 39the proper time--He who is 40the blessed and 41only Sovereign, 42the King of 43kings and 44Lord of 45lords, 1646who alone possesses immortality and 47dwells in unapproachable light, 48whom 49no one has seen or can see. 50To Him be honor and eternal dominion! Amen.

17Instruct those who are rich in 51this present world 52not to be conceited or to 53set their hope on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, 54who richly supplies us with all things to enjoy. 18Instruct them to do good, to be rich in 55good 56works, 57to be generous and ready to share, 1958storing up for themselves the treasure of a good foundation for the future, so that they may 59take hold of that which is truly life.

2060Timothy, protect 61what has been entrusted to you, avoiding 62worldly, empty chatter and the opposing arguments of what is falsely called “knowledge”--
