1 Timothy 4
Abandonment of Faith
1But 1the Spirit explicitly says that 2in later times some will 3fall away from the faith, paying attention to 4deceitful spirits and 5teachings of demons, 2by means of the hypocrisy of liars 6seared in their own conscience as with a branding iron, 3who 7forbid marriage and advocate 8abstaining from foods which 9God has created to be 10gratefully shared in by those who believe and know the truth. 4For 11everything created by God is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is 12received with gratitude; 5for it is sanctified by means of 13the word of God and prayer.
A Good Minister’s Discipline
6In pointing out these things to 14the brothers and sisters, you will be a good 15servant of Christ Jesus, constantly nourished on the words of the faith and of the 16good doctrine which you 17have been following. 7But 18stay away from 19worthless 20stories that are typical of old women. Rather, 21discipline yourself for the purpose of 22godliness; 8for 23bodily training is just slightly beneficial, but 24godliness is beneficial for all things, since it 25holds promise for the 26present life and also for the life to come. 927It is a trustworthy statement deserving full acceptance. 10For it is for this we labor and strive, because we have set 28our hope on 29the living God, who is 30the Savior of all mankind, especially of believers.
113132Prescribe and teach these things. 1233Let no one look down on your youthfulness, but rather in speech, conduct, 34love, faith, and purity, show yourself 35an example 36of those who believe. 1337Until I come, give your attention to the public 3839reading, to exhortation, and teaching. 14Do not neglect the spiritual gift within you, which was granted to you through words of 40prophecy with 41the laying on of hands by the 4243council of elders. 15Take pains with these things; be absorbed in them, so that your progress will be evident to all. 1644Pay close attention to yourself and to the teaching; persevere in these things, for as you do this you will 45save both yourself and those who hear you.
