1 Thessalonians 2:4-8
41but just as we have been approved by God to be 2entrusted with the gospel, so we speak, 3not intending to please people, but to please God, who 45examines our hearts. 5For we never came 6with flattering speech, as you know, nor with 7a pretext 8for greed--9God is our witness-- 6nor did we 10seek honor from people, either from you or from others, though 11we could have 12asserted our authority as 13apostles of Christ. 7But we 14proved to be 1516gentle 17among you. 18As a nursing mother 19tenderly cares for her own children, 8in the same way we had a fond affection for you and were delighted to 20share with you not only the 21gospel of God, but also our own 22lives, because you had become 23very dear to us.
