1 Thessalonians 2:4-8
41but just as we have been approved by God to be 2entrusted with the gospel, so we speak, 3not as pleasing men, but God who 45examines our hearts. 5For we never came 6with flattering speech, as you know, nor with 7a pretext for greed--8God is witness-- 6nor did we 9seek glory from men, either from you or from others, even though as 10apostles of Christ 11we might have 12asserted our authority. 7But we 13proved to be 1415gentle 16among you, 17as a nursing mother 18tenderly cares for her own children. 8Having so fond an affection for you, we were well-pleased to 19impart to you not only the 20gospel of God but also our own 21lives, because you had become 22very dear to us.
