Judges 1:3-17
3Then JudahH3063 saidH559 to SimeonH8095 his brotherH251, “ComeH5927 up with me into 1the territoryH1486 allottedH1486 me, that we may fightH3898 against the CanaanitesH3669; and 2I in turnH1571 will goH1980 with you into 3the territoryH1486 allottedH1486 you.” So SimeonH8095 wentH1980 with him. 4JudahH3063 wentH5927 up, and 4the LordH3068 gaveH5414 the CanaanitesH3669 and the PerizzitesH6522 into their handsH3027, and they 5defeatedH5221 tenH6235 thousandH505 menH376 at BezekH966. 5They foundH4672 Adoni-bezekH137 in BezekH966 and foughtH3898 against him, and they 6defeatedH5221 the CanaanitesH3669 and the PerizzitesH6522. 6But Adoni-bezekH137 fledH5127; and they pursuedH7291 him and caughtH270 him and cutH7112 offH7112 his 7thumbsH931 and bigH931 toesH931H7272. 7Adoni-bezekH137 saidH559, “SeventyH7657 kingsH4428 with their thumbsH931 and their bigH931 toesH931H7272 cutH7112 offH7112 used to gatherH3950 up scraps underH8478 my tableH7979; 8as I have doneH6213, soH3651 GodH430 has repaidH7999 me.” So they broughtH935 him to JerusalemH3389 and he diedH4191 thereH8033.
8Then the sonsH1121 of JudahH3063 foughtH3898 against 9JerusalemH3389 and capturedH3920 it and struckH5221 it with the edgeH6310 of the swordH2719 and setH7971 the cityH5892 on fireH784. 9AfterwardH310 the sonsH1121 of JudahH3063 wentH3381 downH3381 to fightH3898 against the CanaanitesH3669 livingH3427 in the hillH2022 countryH2022 and in the 10NegevH5045 and in the lowlandH8219. 1011So JudahH3063 wentH1980 againstH413 the CanaanitesH3669 who livedH3427 in HebronH2275 (now the nameH8034 of HebronH2275 formerlyH6440 was Kiriath-arbaH7153); and they struckH5221 SheshaiH8344 and AhimanH289 and TalmaiH8526.
11Then 12from thereH8033 he wentH1980 againstH413 the inhabitantsH3427 of DebirH1688 (now the nameH8034 of DebirH1688 formerlyH6440 was Kiriath-sepherH7158). 12And CalebH3612 saidH559, “The one whoH834 attacksH5221 Kiriath-sepherH7158 and capturesH3920 it, I will even giveH5414 him my daughterH1323 AchsahH5915 for a wifeH802.” 1313OthnielH6274 the sonH1121 of KenazH7073, Caleb’sH3612 youngerH6996 brotherH251, capturedH3920 it; so he gaveH5414 him his daughterH1323 AchsahH5915 for a wifeH802. 14Then 14it cameH1961 about when she cameH935 to him, that she persuadedH5496 him to askH7592 her fatherH1 for a fieldH7704. Then she alightedH6795 from 15her donkeyH2543, and CalebH3612 saidH559 to her, “WhatH4100 16do you want?” 15She saidH559 to him, “GiveH3051 me a blessingH1293, sinceH3588 you have givenH5414 me the landH776 of the 17NegevH5045, giveH5414 me also springsH1543 of waterH4325.” So CalebH3612 gaveH5414 her the upperH5942 springsH1543 and the lowerH8482 springsH1543.
16The 18descendantsH1121 of 19the KeniteH7017, Moses’H4872 father-in-lawH2860, wentH5927 up from the 20cityH5892 of palmsH8558 with the sonsH1121 of JudahH3063, to the wildernessH4057 of JudahH3063 whichH834 is in the southH5045 of 21AradH6166; and they wentH1980 and livedH3427 with the peopleH5971. 17Then JudahH3063 wentH1980 with SimeonH8095 his brotherH251, and they struckH5221 the CanaanitesH3669 livingH3427 in ZephathH6857, and utterlyH2763 destroyedH2763 it. So the nameH8034 of the cityH5892 was calledH7121 22HormahH2767.
