Revelation 17:7-18

7And the angel said to me, “Why 1do you wonder? I will tell you the 2mystery of the woman and of the beast that carries her, which has the 3seven heads and the ten horns.

8“4The beast that you saw 5was, and is not, and is about to 6come up out of the 7abyss and 89go to destruction. And 10those who dwell on the earth, 11whose name has not been written in the book of life 12from the foundation of the world, will 13wonder when they see the beast, that he was and is not and will come. 914Here is the mind which has wisdom. The 15seven heads are seven mountains on which the woman sits, 10and they are seven 16kings; five have fallen, one is, the other has not yet come; and when he comes, he must remain a little while. 11The beast which 17was and is not, is himself also an eighth and is one of the seven, and he 18goes to destruction. 12The 19ten horns which you saw are ten kings who have not yet received a kingdom, but they receive authority as kings with the beast 20for one hour. 13These have 21one 22purpose, and they give their power and authority to the beast. 14These will wage 23war against the Lamb, and the Lamb will 24overcome them, because He is 25Lord of lords and 26King of kings, and 27those who are with Him are the 28called and chosen and faithful.”

15And he said to me, “The 29waters which you saw where the harlot sits, are 30peoples and multitudes and nations and tongues. 16And the 31ten horns which you saw, and the beast, these will hate the harlot and will make her 32desolate and 33naked, and will 34eat her flesh and will 35burn her up with fire. 17For 36God has put it in their hearts to execute His 37purpose 38by 39having a common purpose, and by giving their kingdom to the beast, until the 40words of God will be fulfilled. 18The woman whom you saw is 41the great city, which 42reigns over the kings of the earth.”
