18But the Israelitesבְּנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔לbe.Nei Yis.ra.'ElH1121 H3478did notוְלֹ֤אve.Lo'H3808attack themהִכּוּם֙hi.KumH5221,becauseכִּֽי־ki-H3588the leadersנְשִׂיאֵ֣יne.si.'EiH5387of the congregationהָֽעֵדָ֔הha.'e.DahH5712had sworn an oathנִשְׁבְּע֤וּnish.be.'UH7650to themby the LORDבַּֽיהוָ֖הba.Yah.wehH3068,the Godאֱלֹהֵ֣י'e.lo.HeiH430of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֑לYis.ra.'ElH3478.And the wholeכָל־khol-H3605congregationהָעֵדָ֖הha.'e.DahH5712grumbledוַיִּלֹּ֥נוּvai.yi.Lo.nuH3885againstעַל־'al-H5921the leadersהַנְּשִׂיאִֽים׃ha.ne.si.'ImH5387.

19Allכָל־khol-H3605the leadersהַנְּשִׂיאִים֙ אֶל־ha.ne.si.'Im 'el-H5387 H413answeredוַיֹּאמְר֤וּvai.yo.me.RuH559כָּל־kol-H3605הָ֣עֵדָ֔הha.'e.DahH5712, “Weאֲנַ֙חְנוּ֙'a.Nach.nuH587have sworn an oathנִשְׁבַּ֣עְנוּnish.Ba'.nuH7650to themby the LORDבַּֽיהוָ֖הba.Yah.wehH3068,the Godאֱלֹהֵ֣י'e.lo.HeiH430of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֑לYis.ra.'ElH3478,and nowוְעַתָּ֕הve.'a.TahH6258we cannotלֹ֥א נוּכַ֖לlo' nu.KhalH3808 H3201touchלִנְגֹּ֥עַlin.Go.a'H5060them.

20Thisזֹ֛אתzotH2063is how we will treatנַעֲשֶׂ֥הna.'a.SehH6213them:We will let them liveוְהַחֲיֵ֣הve.ha.cha.YehH2421אוֹתָ֑ם'o.TamH853,so that noוְלֹֽא־ve.lo'-H3808wrathקֶ֔צֶףKe.tzefH7110will fallיִֽהְיֶ֤הyih.YehH1961on usעָלֵ֙ינוּ֙'a.Lei.nuH5921because ofעַל־'al-H5921the oathהַשְּׁבוּעָ֖הha.she.vu.'AhH7621אֲשֶׁר־'a.Sher-H834we sworeנִשְׁבַּ֥עְנוּnish.Ba'.nuH7650to them.”

21Theyהַנְּשִׂיאִ֖יםha.ne.si.'ImH5387continuedוַיֹּאמְר֧וּ אֲלֵיהֶ֛םvai.yo.me.Ru 'a.lei.HemH559 H413, “Let them liveיִֽחְי֑וּyich.YuH2421,but let them beוַ֠יִּֽהְיוּVai.yih.yuH1961woodcuttersחֹטְבֵ֨י עֵצִ֤יםcho.te.Vei 'e.TzimH2404 H6086and waterמַ֙יִם֙ma.yimH4325carriersוְשֹֽׁאֲבֵי־ve.sho.'a.vei-H7579for the wholeלְכָל־le.kholH3605congregationהָ֣עֵדָ֔הha.'e.DahH5712.”Soכַּאֲשֶׁ֛רka.'a.SherH834the leadersהַנְּשִׂיאִֽים׃ha.ne.si.'ImH5387kept their promiseדִּבְּר֥וּdi.be.RuH1696.

22Then Joshuaיְהוֹשֻׁ֔עַye.ho.Shu.a'H3091summonedוַיִּקְרָ֤אvai.yik.Ra'H7121the Gibeonitesand saidוַיְדַבֵּ֥רvay.da.BerH1696אֲלֵיהֶ֖ם'a.lei.HemH413, “Whyלָמָּה֩la.MahH4100did you deceiveרִמִּיתֶ֨םri.mi.TemH7411usלֵאמֹ֑ר אֹתָ֜נוּle.Mor 'o.Ta.nuH853 H559by telling usלֵאמֹ֗רle.MorH559you live far awayרְחוֹקִ֨ים מְאֹ֔דre.cho.Kim me.'OdH7350 H3966fromusאֲנַ֤חְנוּ'a.Nach.nuH587,when in fact youוְאַתֶּ֖םve.'a.TemH859liveיֹשְׁבִֽים׃yo.she.VimH3427among usבְּקִרְבֵּ֥נוּbe.kir.Be.nuH7130?

23Now thereforeוְעַתָּ֖הve.'a.TahH6258youאַתֶּ֑ם'a.TemH859are under a curseאֲרוּרִ֣ים'a.ru.RimH779and will perpetuallyוְלֹֽא־ יִכָּרֵ֨תve.lo'- yi.ka.RetH3808 H3772serveעֶ֗בֶד'E.vedH5650as woodcuttersוְחֹטְבֵ֥י עֵצִ֛יםve.cho.te.Vei 'e.TzimH2404 H6086and waterמַ֖יִםMa.yimH4325carriersוְשֹֽׁאֲבֵי־ve.sho.'a.vei-H7579for the houseלְבֵ֥יתle.VeitH1004of my Godאֱלֹהָֽי׃'e.lo.HaiH430.”

24The Gibeonites answeredוַיַּעֲנ֨וּvai.ya.'a.NuH6030אֶת־'et-H853יְהוֹשֻׁ֜עַye.ho.Shu.a'H3091וַיֹּאמְר֗וּvai.yo.me.RuH559כִּי֩kiH3588, “Your servantsלַעֲבָדֶ֙יךָ֙la.'a.va.Dei.khaH5650אֵת֩'etH853הֻגֵּ֨דhu.GedH5046were told clearlyהֻגַּ֤דhu.GadH5046thatאֲשֶׁ֨ר'a.SherH834the LORDיְהוָ֤הYah.wehH3068your Godאֱלֹהֶ֙יךָ֙'e.lo.Hei.khaH430אֶת־'et-H853had commandedצִוָּ֜הtzi.VahH6680His servantעַבְדּ֔וֹav.DoH5650Mosesמֹשֶׁ֣הmo.ShehH4872to giveלָתֵ֤תla.TetH5414youאֶת־'et-H853allכָּל־kol-H3605the landהָאָ֔רֶץha.'A.retzH776and wipe outוּלְהַשְׁמִ֛ידu.le.hash.MidH8045אֶת־'et-H853allכָּל־kol-H3605its inhabitantsיֹשְׁבֵ֥י הָאָ֖רֶץyo.she.Vei ha.'A.retzH3427 H776before youמִפְּנֵיכֶ֑םmi.pe.nei.KhemH6440.So we greatlyמְאֹ֤דme.'OdH3966fearedוַנִּירָ֨אva.ni.Ra'H3372for our livesלְנַפְשֹׁתֵ֙ינוּ֙le.naf.sho.Tei.nuH5315because of youמִפְּנֵיכֶ֔םmi.pe.nei.KhemH6440,and that is why we have doneוַֽנַּעֲשֵׂ֖הva.na.'a.SehH6213אֶת־'et-H853הַדָּבָ֥רha.da.VarH1697thisהַזֶּֽה׃ha.ZehH2088.

25Nowוְעַתָּ֖ה הִנְנ֣וּve.'a.Tah hi.NuH6258 H2005we are in your handsבְיָדֶ֑ךָve.ya.De.khaH3027.Doלַעֲשׂ֥וֹתla.'a.SotH6213to uswhatever seemsבְּעֵינֶ֛יךָbe.'ei.Nei.khaH5869goodכַּטּ֨וֹבka.TovH2896and rightוְכַיָּשָׁ֧רve.khai.ya.SharH3477to youעֲשֵֽׂה׃'a.SehH6213.”

26Soכֵּ֑ןKenH3651Joshua did thisוַיַּ֥עַשׂvai.Ya.'asH6213and deliveredוַיַּצֵּ֥לvai.ya.TzelH5337themאוֹתָ֛ם'o.TamH853from the handsמִיַּ֥דmi.YadH3027of the Israelitesבְּנֵֽי־ יִשְׂרָאֵ֖לbe.nei- Yis.ra.'ElH1121 H3478,and they did notוְלֹ֥אve.Lo'H3808killהֲרָגֽוּם׃ha.ra.GumH2026the Gibeonites.

27On thatהַה֗וּאha.Hu'H1931dayבַּיּ֣וֹםbai.YomH3117heיְהוֹשֻׁ֜עַye.ho.Shu.a'H3091made themוַיִּתְּנֵ֨םvai.yi.te.NemH5414woodcuttersחֹטְבֵ֥י עֵצִ֛יםcho.te.Vei 'e.TzimH2404 H6086and waterמַ֖יִםMa.yimH4325carriersוְשֹׁ֥אֲבֵיve.Sho.'a.veiH7579,as they are to this dayעַד־ הַיּ֣וֹם הַזֶּ֔ה'ad- hai.Yom ha.ZehH5704 H3117 H2088for the congregationלָֽעֵדָ֑הla.'e.DahH5712of the LORDיְהוָה֙Yah.wehH3068and for the altarוּלְמִזְבַּ֤חu.le.miz.BachH4196atאֶל־'el-H413the placeהַמָּק֖וֹםha.ma.KomH4725אֲשֶׁ֥ר'a.SherH834He would chooseיִבְחָֽר׃ פyiv.CharH977.
