2Thenוַיַּעַן֩vai.ya.'AnH6030Shecaniahשְׁכַנְיָ֨הshe.khan.YahH7935sonבֶן־ven-H1121of Jehielיְחִיאֵ֜לye.chi.'ElH3171,an Elamiteמִבְּנֵ֤י עֵילָם֙mi.be.Nei o.lamH1121 H5867,saidוַיֹּ֣אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to Ezraלְעֶזְרָ֔אle.'ez.Ra'H5830: “Weאֲנַ֙חְנוּ֙'a.Nach.nuH587have been unfaithfulמָעַ֣לְנוּma.'Al.nuH4603to our Godבֵאלֹהֵ֔ינוּve.lo.Hei.nuH430by marryingוַנֹּ֛שֶׁבva.No.shevH3427foreignנָכְרִיּ֖וֹתna.khe.ri.YotH5237womenנָשִׁ֥יםna.ShimH802from the peopleמֵעַמֵּ֣יme.'a.MeiH5971of the landהָאָ֑רֶץha.'A.retzH776,yetוְעַתָּ֛הve.'a.TahH6258in spite ofעַל־'al-H5921thisזֹֽאת׃ZotH2063,there isיֵשׁ־yesh-H3426hopeמִקְוֶ֥הmik.VehH4723for Israelלְיִשְׂרָאֵ֖לle.Yis.ra.'ElH3478.

3So nowוְעַתָּ֣הve.'a.TahH6258let us makeנִֽכְרָת־nikh.rot-H3772a covenantבְּרִ֣יתbe.RitH1285before our Godלֵ֠אלֹהֵינוּLe.lo.hei.nuH430to send awayלְהוֹצִ֨יאle.ho.Tzi'H3318allכָל־khol-H3605the foreign wivesנָשִׁ֜יםna.ShimH802and their childrenוְהַנּוֹלָ֤דve.ha.no.LadH3205,according to the counselבַּעֲצַ֣תba.'a.TzatH6098of my lordאֲדֹנָ֔י'a.do.NaiH136and of those who trembleוְהַחֲרֵדִ֖יםve.ha.cha.re.DimH2730at the commandבְּמִצְוַ֣תbe.mitz.VatH4687of our Godאֱלֹהֵ֑ינוּ'e.lo.Hei.nuH430.Let it be doneיֵעָשֶֽׂה׃ye.'a.SehH6213according to the Lawוְכַתּוֹרָ֖הve.kha.to.RahH8451.

4Get upק֛וּםkumH6965,forכִּֽי־ki-H3588thismatterהַדָּבָ֖רha.da.VarH1697isyourעָלֶ֥יךָ'a.Lei.khaH5921responsibility,and weוַאֲנַ֣חְנוּva.'a.Nach.nuH587will support youעִמָּ֑ךְ'i.MakhH5973.Be strongחֲזַ֖קcha.ZakH2388and take actionוַעֲשֵֽׂה׃ פva.'a.SehH6213!”

5So Ezraעֶזְרָ֡א'ez.Ra'H5830got upוַיָּ֣קָםvai.Ya.komH6965and made the leadingשָׂרֵי֩sa.ReiH8269priestsהַכֹּהֲנִ֨יםha.ko.ha.NimH3548,Levitesהַלְוִיִּ֜םhal.vi.YimH3881,and allוְכָל־ve.kholH3605Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֗לYis.ra.'ElH3478take an oathוַיַּשְׁבַּ֣עvai.yash.Ba'H7650אֶת־'et-H853to do what had been saidלַעֲשׂ֛וֹת כַּדָּבָ֥ר הַזֶּ֖הla.'a.Sot ka.da.Var ha.ZehH6213 H1697 H2088.And they took the oathוַיִּשָּׁבֵֽעוּ׃vai.yi.sha.Ve.'uH7650.

6Then Ezraעֶזְרָ֗א'ez.Ra'H5830withdrewוַיָּ֣קָםvai.Ya.komH6965from beforeמִלִּפְנֵי֙mi.lif.NeiH6440the houseבֵּ֣יתbeitH1004of Godהָֽאֱלֹהִ֔יםha.'E.lo.HimH430and walkedוַיֵּ֕לֶךְvai.Ye.lekhH1980toאֶל־'el-H413the chamberלִשְׁכַּ֖תlish.KatH3957of Jehohananיְהוֹחָנָ֣ןye.ho.cha.NanH3076sonבֶּן־ben-H1121of Eliashibאֶלְיָשִׁ֑יב'el.ya.ShivH475.And while he stayedוַיֵּ֣לֶךְvai.Ye.lekhH1980thereשָׁ֗םShamH8033,he ateאָכַל֙'a.KhalH398noלֹֽא־lo'-H3808foodלֶ֤חֶםLe.chemH3899and drankשָׁתָ֔הsha.TahH8354noלֹֽא־lo'-H3808waterוּמַ֣יִםu.Ma.yimH4325,becauseכִּ֥יkiH3588he was mourningמִתְאַבֵּ֖לmit.'a.BelH56overעַל־'al-H5921the unfaithfulnessמַ֥עַלMa.'alH4604of the exilesהַגּוֹלָֽה׃ סha.go.LahH1473.

7And a proclamationק֜וֹלKolH6963was issuedוַיַּעֲבִ֨ירוּvai.ya.'a.Vi.ruH5674throughout Judahבִּיהוּדָ֣הbi.hu.DahH3063and Jerusalemוִירֽוּשָׁלִַ֗םvi.ru.sha.LimH3389that allלְכֹל֙le.KholH3605the exilesבְּנֵ֣י הַגּוֹלָ֔הbe.Nei ha.go.LahH1121 H1473should gatherלְהִקָּבֵ֖ץle.hi.ka.VetzH6908at Jerusalemיְרוּשָׁלִָֽם׃ye.ru.sha.LimH3389.

8Whoeverוְכֹל֩ve.KholH3605אֲשֶׁ֨ר'a.SherH834failedלֹֽא־lo'-H3808to appearיָב֜וֹאya.Vo'H935within threeלִשְׁלֹ֣שֶׁתlish.Lo.shetH7969daysהַיָּמִ֗יםhai.ya.MimH3117would forfeitיָחֳרַ֖םyo.cho.RamH2763allכָּל־kol-H3605his propertyרְכוּשׁ֑וֹ וְה֥וּאre.khu.Sho ve.Hu'H7399 H1931,according to the counselכַּעֲצַ֤תka.'a.TzatH6098of the leadersהַשָּׂרִים֙ha.sa.RimH8269and eldersוְהַזְּקֵנִ֔יםve.ha.ze.ke.NimH2205,and would himself be expelledיִבָּדֵ֖לyi.ba.DelH914from the assemblyמִקְּהַ֥לmi.ke.HalH6951of the exilesהַגּוֹלָֽה׃ סha.go.LahH1473.

9So within the threeלִשְׁלֹ֣שֶׁתlish.Lo.shetH7969daysהַיָּמִ֗יםhai.ya.MimH3117,allכָל־khol-H3605the menאַנְשֵֽׁי־'an.shei-H582of Judahיְהוּדָה֩ye.hu.DahH3063and Benjaminוּבִנְיָמִ֨ן׀u.vin.ya.MinH1144assembledוַיִּקָּבְצ֣וּvai.yi.ka.ve.TzuH6908in Jerusalemיְרוּשָׁלִַ֜ם ה֛וּאye.ru.sha.Lim hu'H3389 H1931,and on the twentieth dayחֹ֥דֶשׁ בְּעֶשְׂרִ֣יםCho.desh be.'es.RimH6242 H2320of the ninthהַתְּשִׁיעִ֖יha.te.shi.'IH8671monthבַּחֹ֑דֶשׁba.Cho.deshH2320,allכָל־khol-H3605the peopleהָעָ֗םha.'AmH5971satוַיֵּשְׁב֣וּvai.ye.she.VuH3427in the squareבִּרְחוֹב֙bir.chOvH7339at the houseבֵּ֣יתbeitH1004of Godהָאֱלֹהִ֔יםha.'E.lo.HimH430,tremblingמַרְעִידִ֥יםmar.'i.DimH7460regardingעַל־'al-H5921this matterהַדָּבָ֖רha.da.VarH1697and because of the heavy rainוּמֵהַגְּשָׁמִֽים׃ פu.me.ha.ge.sha.MimH1653.

10Then Ezraעֶזְרָ֤א'ez.Ra'H5830the priestהַכֹּהֵן֙ha.ko.HenH3548stood upוַיָּ֨קָםvai.Ya.komH6965and saidוַיֹּ֣אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to themאֲלֵהֶ֔ם'a.le.HemH413, “Youאַתֶּ֣ם'a.TemH859have been unfaithfulמְעַלְתֶּ֔םme.'al.TemH4603by marryingוַתֹּשִׁ֖יבוּva.to.Shi.vuH3427foreignנָכְרִיּ֑וֹתna.khe.ri.YotH5237womenנָשִׁ֣יםna.ShimH802,addingלְהוֹסִ֖יףle.ho.SifH3254toעַל־'al-H5921the guiltאַשְׁמַ֥ת'ash.MatH819of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃Yis.ra.'ElH3478.

11Now, thereforeוְעַתָּ֗הve.'a.TahH6258,makeתְּנ֥וּte.NuH5414a confessionתוֹדָ֛הto.DahH8426to the LORDלַיהוָ֥הla.Yah.wehH3068,the Godאֱלֹהֵֽי־'e.lo.hei-H430of your fathersאֲבֹתֵיכֶ֖ם'a.vo.tei.KhemH1,and doוַעֲשׂ֣וּva.'a.SuH6213His willרְצוֹנ֑וֹre.tzo.NoH7522.Separateוְהִבָּֽדְלוּ֙ve.hi.ba.de.LuH914yourselvesוּמִן־u.min-H4480from the peopleמֵעַמֵּ֣יme.'a.MeiH5971of the landהָאָ֔רֶץha.'A.retzH776and from your foreignהַנָּכְרִיּֽוֹת׃ha.na.khe.ri.YotH5237wivesהַנָּשִׁ֖יםha.na.ShimH802.”
