7Now Saulוּלְשָׁא֣וּלu.le.sha.'UlH7586had a concubineפִּלֶ֔גֶשׁpi.Le.geshH6370namedוּשְׁמָ֖הּu.she.MahH8034Rizpahרִצְפָּ֣הritz.PahH7532,the daughterבַת־vat-H1323of Aiahאַיָּ֑ה'ai.YahH345.So Ish-bosheth questionedוַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙vai.Yo.merH559אֶל־'el-H413Abnerאַבְנֵ֔ר'av.NerH74, “Whyמַדּ֥וּעַma.Du.a'H4069did you sleep withבָּ֖אתָה אֶל־Ba.tah 'el-H935H413my father’sאָבִֽי׃'a.ViH1concubineפִּילֶ֥גֶשׁpi.Le.geshH6370?”

12Then Abnerאַבְנֵ֨ר'av.NerH74sentוַיִּשְׁלַח֩vai.yish.LachH7971messengersמַלְאָכִ֧ים׀mal.'a.KhimH4397on his behalfתַּחְתָּ֥יוta.cha.tovH8478to sayלֵאמֹ֖רle.MorH559toאֶל־'el-H413Davidדָּוִ֛דda.VidH1732, “To whomלְמִי־le.mi-H4310doesthe landאָ֑רֶץ לֵאמֹ֗ר'A.retz le.MorH776H559belong?Makeכָּרְתָ֤הka.re.TahH3772your covenantבְרִֽיתְךָ֙ve.ri.te.KhaH1285with meאִתִּ֔י'i.TiH854,and surelyוְהִנֵּה֙ve.hi.NehH2009my handיָדִ֣יya.DiH3027will bewith youעִמָּ֔ךְ'i.MakhH5973to bringלְהָסֵ֥בle.ha.SevH5437allכָּל־kol-H3605Israelיִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃Yis.ra.'ElH3478over to youאֵלֶ֖יךָ'e.Lei.khaH413אֶת־'et-H853.”

14Then Davidדָּוִד֙da.VidH1732sentוַיִּשְׁלַ֤חvai.yish.LachH7971messengersמַלְאָכִ֔יםmal.'a.KhimH4397to sayלֵאמֹ֑רle.MorH559toאֶל־'el-H413Ish-boshethH378sonבֶּן־ben-H1121of Saulשָׁא֖וּלsha.'UlH7586, “Giveתְּנָ֤הte.NahH5414meאֶת־'et-H853back my wifeאִשְׁתִּי֙'ish.TiH802אֶת־'et-H853,Michalמִיכַ֔לmi.KhalH4324,whomאֲשֶׁר֙'a.SherH834I betrothedאֵרַ֣שְׂתִּי'e.Ras.tiH781to myselffor a hundredבְּמֵאָ֖הbe.me.'AhH3967Philistineפְּלִשְׁתִּֽים׃pe.lish.TimH6430foreskinsעָרְל֥וֹתa.re.LotH6190.”
16Her husbandוַיֵּ֨לֶךְ אִישָׁ֗הּvai.Ye.lekh 'i.ShahH376H1980followedאִתָּ֜הּ הָל֧וֹךְ'i.Tah ha.LokhH1980H854herאַחֲרֶ֖יהָ'a.cha.Rei.haH310,weepingוּבָכֹ֛הu.va.KhohH1058all the way toעַד־'ad-H5704Bahurimבַּֽחֻרִ֑יםba.chu.RimH980.Then Abnerאַבְנֵ֛ר לֵ֥ךְ'av.Ner lekhH74H1980saidוַיֹּ֨אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to himאֵלָ֥יו'e.LavH413, “Go backשׁ֖וּבshuvH7725.”So he returnedוַיָּשֹֽׁב׃vai.ya.ShoH7725home.
17Now Abnerאַבְנֵ֣ר הָיָ֔ה'av.Ner ha.YahH74H1961conferredוּדְבַר־u.de.var-H1697withעִם־'im-H5973the eldersזִקְנֵ֥יzik.NeiH2205of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֖לYis.ra.'ElH3478and saidלֵאמֹ֑רle.MorH559, “In the pastתְּמוֹל֙ שִׁלְשֹׁ֔ם הֱיִיתֶ֞םte.mOl shil.Shom he.yi.TemH8543H1571H8032H1961you soughtמְבַקְשִׁ֧יםme.vak.ShimH1245אֶת־'et-H853Davidדָּוִ֛דda.VidH1732as your kingלְמֶ֖לֶךְ עֲלֵיכֶֽם׃le.Me.lekh 'a.lei.KhemH4428H5921.
18Nowוְעַתָּ֖הve.'a.TahH6258take actionעֲשׂ֑וּ'a.SuH6213,becauseכִּ֣יkiH3588the LORDיְהוָ֗הYah.wehH3068has saidאָמַ֤ר'a.MarH559toאֶל־'el-H413Davidדָּוִד֙ לֵאמֹ֔רda.Vid le.MorH1732H559, ‘Throughבְּיַ֣ד׀be.YadH3027My servantעַבְדִּ֗י'av.DiH5650Davidדָּוִ֣דda.VidH1732I will saveהוֹשִׁ֜יעַho.Shi.a'H3467אֶת־'et-H853My peopleעַמִּ֤י'a.MiH5971Israelיִשְׂרָאֵל֙Yis.ra.'ElH3478from the handsמִיַּ֣דmi.YadH3027of the Philistinesפְּלִשְׁתִּ֔יםpe.lish.TimH6430andוּמִיַּ֖דu.mi.YadH3027of allכָּל־kol-H3605their enemiesאֹיְבֵיהֶֽם׃'o.ye.vei.HemH341.’”

22Just thenוְהִנֵּה֩ve.hi.NehH2009David’sדָוִ֤דda.VidH1732soldiersעַבְדֵ֨י'av.DeiH5650and Joabוְיוֹאָב֙ve.yo.'AvH3097returnedבָּ֣אba'H935from a raidמֵֽהַגְּד֔וּדme.ha.ge.DudH1416,bringingהֵבִ֑יאוּhe.Vi.'uH935with themעִמָּ֣ם'i.MamH5973a greatרָ֖בravH7227plunderוְשָׁלָ֥לve.sha.LalH7998.But Abnerוְאַבְנֵ֗רve.'av.NerH74wasnotאֵינֶ֤נּוּ'ei.Ne.nuH369withעִם־'im-H5973Davidדָּוִד֙da.VidH1732in Hebronבְּחֶבְר֔וֹןbe.chev.RonH2275,becauseכִּ֥יkiH3588David had sent himשִׁלְּח֖וֹshi.le.ChoH7971on his wayוַיֵּ֥לֶךְvai.Ye.lekhH1980in peaceבְּשָׁלֽוֹם׃be.sha.LomH7965.
23When Joabוְיוֹאָ֛בve.yo.'AvH3097and allוְכָל־ve.kholH3605his troopsהַצָּבָ֥אha.tza.Va'H6635אֲשֶׁר־'a.Sher-H834אִתּ֖וֹ'i.ToH854arrivedבָּ֑אוּBa.'uH935, heלְיוֹאָב֙ לֵאמֹ֔רle.yo.'Av le.MorH3097H559was informedוַיַּגִּ֤דוּvai.ya.Gi.duH5046, “Abnerאַבְנֵ֤ר'av.NerH74sonבֶּן־ben-H1121of Nerנֵר֙nerH5369cameבָּֽא־ba'-H935toאֶל־'el-H413see the kingהַמֶּ֔לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428,who sent himוַֽיְשַׁלְּחֵ֖הוּvay.sha.le.Che.huH7971on his wayוַיֵּ֥לֶךְvai.Ye.lekhH1980in peaceבְּשָׁלֽוֹם׃be.sha.LomH7965.”
24So Joabיוֹאָב֙yo.'AvH3097wentוַיָּבֹ֤אvai.ya.Vo'H935toאֶל־'el-H413the kingהַמֶּ֔לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428and saidוַיֹּ֖אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “Whatמֶ֣הmehH4100have you doneעָשִׂ֑יתָה'a.Si.tahH6213?Lookהִנֵּה־hi.neh-H2009,Abnerאַבְנֵר֙'av.NerH74cameבָ֤אva'H935to youאֵלֶ֔יךָ'e.Lei.khaH413.Whyלָמָּה־ זֶּ֥הla.mah- zehH4100H2088did you dismiss himשִׁלַּחְתּ֖וֹshi.lach.ToH7971?Now he is getting awayH1980!
25Surely you realizeיָדַ֙עְתָּ֙ya.Da'.taH3045אֶת־'et-H853thatכִּ֥יkiH3588Abnerאַבְנֵ֣ר'av.NerH74sonבֶּן־ben-H1121of Nerנֵ֔רNerH5369cameבָּ֑אBa'H935to deceive youלְפַתֹּתְךָ֖le.fa.to.te.KhaH6601and to trackוְלָדַ֜עַתve.la.Da.'atH3045אֶת־'et-H853your movementsמוֹצָֽאֲךָ֙mo.tza.'a.KhaH4161וְאֶת־ve.'EtH853מ֣וֹבָאֶ֔ךָmi.vo.'e.khaH4126וְלָדַ֕עַתve.la.Da.'atH3045אֵ֛ת'etH853and allכָּל־kol-H3605thatאֲשֶׁ֥ר'a.SherH834you areאַתָּ֖ה'a.TahH859doingעֹשֶֽׂה׃'o.SehH6213.”
26As soon as Joabיוֹאָב֙ מֵעִ֣םyo.'Av me.'ImH3097H5973had leftוַיֵּצֵ֤אvai.ye.Tze'H3318Davidדָּוִ֔דda.VidH1732,he sentוַיִּשְׁלַ֤חvai.yish.LachH7971messengersמַלְאָכִים֙mal.'a.KhimH4397afterאַחֲרֵ֣י'a.cha.ReiH310Abnerאַבְנֵ֔ר'av.NerH74,who brought him backוַיָּשִׁ֥בוּvai.ya.Shi.vuH7725אֹת֖וֹ'o.ToH853from the wellמִבּ֣וֹרmi.BorH953of Sirahהַסִּרָ֑הha.si.RahH5626.But Davidוְדָוִ֖דve.da.VidH1732was unawareלֹ֥אlo'H3808of itיָדָֽע׃ya.Da'H3045.
27When Abnerאַבְנֵר֙'av.NerH74returnedוַיָּ֤שָׁבvai.Ya.shovH7725to Hebronחֶבְר֔וֹןchev.RonH2275,Joabיוֹאָב֙yo.'AvH3097pulled him asideוַיַּטֵּ֤הוּvai.ya.Te.huH5186intoאֶל־'el-H413תּ֣וֹךְTokhH8432the gatewayהַשַּׁ֔עַרha.Sha.'arH8179,as if to speakלְדַבֵּ֥רle.da.BerH1696to him privatelyאִתּ֖וֹ בַּשֶּׁ֑לִי'i.To ba.She.liH854H7987,and thereשָׁם֙shamH8033Joab stabbed himוַיַּכֵּ֤הוּvai.ya.Ke.huH5221in the stomachהַחֹ֔מֶשׁha.Cho.meshH2570.So Abner diedוַיָּ֕מָתvai.Ya.motH4191on account of the bloodבְּדַ֖םbe.DamH1818of Joab’s brotherאָחִֽיו׃'a.ChivH251AsahelH6214.
