Ruth 4
American Standard Version
1Now BoazH1162 wentH5927 up to the gateH8179, and satH3427 him downH3427 there: and, behold, the near kinsmanH1350 of whom BoazH1162 spake cameH5927 by; unto whom he saidH559, Ho, such a oneH834! turnH5493 asideH5493, sitH3427 down hereH6311. And he turnedH5493 asideH5493, and satH3427 downH3427. 2And he tookH3947 tenH6235 menH376 of the eldersH2205 of the cityH5892, and saidH559, SitH3427 ye downH3427 hereH6311. And they satH3427 downH3427. 3And he saidH559 unto the near kinsman, NaomiH5281, that is come again out of the countryH7704 of MoabH4124, selleth the parcel of landH7704, which was our brotherH251 Elimelech’s: 4and I thought to disclose it unto thee, sayingH559, BuyH7069 it before them that sitH3427 here, and before the eldersH2205 of my peopleH5971. If thou wilt redeemH1350 it, redeemH1350 it: but if thou wilt not redeemH1350 it, then tellH5046 me, that I may knowH3045; for there is none to redeemH1350 it besides thee; and I am after thee. And he saidH559, I will redeemH1350 it. 5Then saidH559 BoazH1162, What dayH3117 thou buyest the fieldH7704 of the handH3027 of NaomiH5281, thou must buyH7069 it also of RuthH7327 the Moabitess, the wifeH802 of the deadH4191, to raiseH6965 up the nameH8034 of the deadH4191 upon his inheritanceH5159. 6And the near kinsmanH1350 saidH559, I cannot redeemH1350 it for myself, lestH6435 I mar mine own inheritanceH5159: take thou my rightH1353 of redemptionH1353 on thee; for I cannot redeemH1350 it.
7Now this wasthe customin former time in IsraelH3478 concerning redeeming and concerning exchanging, to confirm all thingsH1697: a manH376 drewH8025 off his shoe, and gaveH5414 it to his neighborH7453; and this was the mannerH1697 of attestation in IsraelH3478. 8So the near kinsmanH1350 saidH559 unto BoazH1162, BuyH7069 it for thyself. And he drewH8025 off his shoe. 9And BoazH1162 saidH559 unto the eldersH2205, and unto all the peopleH5971, Ye are witnessesH5707 this dayH3117, that I have boughtH7069 all that was Elimelech’s, and all that was Chilion’s and Mahlon’s, of the handH3027 of NaomiH5281. 10Moreover RuthH7327 the Moabitess, the wifeH802 of MahlonH4248, have I purchased to be my wifeH802, to raiseH6965 up the nameH8034 of the deadH4191 upon his inheritanceH5159, that the nameH8034 of the deadH4191 be not cutH3772 off from among his brethren, and from the gateH8179 of his placeH4725: ye are witnessesH5707 this dayH3117. 11And all the peopleH5971 that were in the gateH8179, and the eldersH2205, saidH559, We are witnessesH5707. Jehovah makeH5414 the womanH802 that is comeH935 into thy houseH1004 like RachelH7354 and like LeahH3812, which twoH8147 did buildH1129 the houseH1004 of IsraelH3478: and do thou worthily in EphrathahH672, and be famous in Beth-lehem: 12and let thy houseH1004 beH1961 like the houseH1004 of PerezH6557, whom TamarH8559 bare unto JudahH3063, of the seedH2233 which Jehovah shall giveH5414 thee of this youngH5291 womanH5291.
13So BoazH1162 tookH3947 RuthH7327, and she became his wifeH802; and he wentH935 in unto her, and Jehovah gaveH5414 her conceptionH2032, and she bare a sonH1121. 14And the womenH802 saidH559 unto NaomiH5281, BlessedH1288 be Jehovah, who hath not left thee this dayH3117 without a near kinsmanH1350; and let his nameH8034 be famous in IsraelH3478. 15And he shall beH1961 unto thee a restorer of lifeH5315, and a nourisher of thine old age, for thy daughter-in-law, who loveth thee, who is betterH2896 to thee than sevenH7651 sonsH1121, hath borneH3205 him. 16And NaomiH5281 tookH3947 the childH3206, and laid it in her bosomH2436, and becameH1961 nurseH539 unto it. 17And the women her neighborsH7934 gaveH3205 it a nameH8034, sayingH559, There is a sonH1121 bornH3205 to NaomiH5281; and they calledH7121 his nameH8034 ObedH5744: he is the fatherH1 of JesseH3448, the fatherH1 of DavidH1732.
18Now these are the generationsH8435 of PerezH6557: PerezH6557 begat HezronH2696, 19and HezronH2696 begat RamH7410, and RamH7410 begat AmminadabH5992, 20and AmminadabH5992 begat NahshonH5177, and NahshonH5177 begat Salmon, 21and Salmon begat BoazH1162, and BoazH1162 begat ObedH5744, 22and ObedH5744 begat JesseH3448, and JesseH3448 begat DavidH1732.
