Ruth 4

Boaz Redeems Ruth

1Meanwhile, BoazH1162 wentH5927 to the gateH8179 and sat downH3427 thereH8033. SoonH2009 the kinsman-redeemerH13501 of whomH1162 he had spokenH1696 came alongH5674, and Boaz saidH559, “Come overH5493 hereH6311, my friendH6423H492, and sit downH3427.” So he went overH5493 and sat downH3427.

2Then Boaz tookH3947 tenH6235H582 of the eldersH2205 of the cityH5892 and saidH559, “SitH3427 hereH6311,” and they did soH3427.

3And he saidH559 to the kinsman-redeemerH1350, “NaomiH5281, who has returnedH7725 from the landH7704 of MoabH4124, is sellingH4376 the pieceH2513 of landH7704 thatH834 belonged to our brotherH251 ElimelechH458. 4IH589 thoughtH559 I should informH1540 youH241 thatH559 you may buy it backH7069 in the presence ofH5048 those seated hereH3427 and in the presence ofH5048 the eldersH2205 of my peopleH5971. IfH518 you want to redeem itH1350, do soH1350. But if youH5182 will notH3808 redeemH1350 it, tellH5046 me so I may knowH3045, becauseH3588 there is no oneH369 but youH2108 to redeemH1350 it, and IH595 am next after youH310.”

“IH595 will redeemH1350 it,” he repliedH559.

5Then BoazH1162 saidH559, “On the dayH3117 you buyH7069 the landH7704 fromH3027 NaomiH5281 and also fromH854 RuthH7327 the MoabitessH4125, you must also acquireH7069 the widowH802 of the deceasedH4191 in order to raiseH6965 up the nameH8034 of the deceasedH4191 onH5921 his inheritanceH5159.”

6The kinsman-redeemerH1350 repliedH559, “I cannotH3808H3201 redeem itH1350 myself, orH6435 I would jeopardizeH7843 my own inheritanceH5159. Take my right of redemptionH1353H1350H859, becauseH3588 I cannotH3808H3201 redeem itH1350.”

7NowH2063 in former timesH6440 in IsraelH3478, concerningH5921 the redemptionH1353H5921 or exchange of propertyH8545, to make anyH3605 matterH1697 legally bindingH6965 a manH376 would removeH8025 his sandalH5275 and give itH5414 to the other partyH7453, and thisH2063 was a confirmationH8584 in IsraelH3478. 8So the kinsman-redeemerH1350 removedH8025 his sandalH5275 and saidH559 to BoazH1162, “BuyH7069 it for yourself.”

9At this, BoazH1162 saidH559 to the eldersH2205 and allH3605 the peopleH5971, “YouH859 are witnessesH5707 todayH3117 thatH3588 I am buyingH7069 fromH3027 NaomiH5281 allH3605 thatH834 belonged to ElimelechH458, ChilionH3630, and MahlonH4248. 10MoreoverH1571, I have acquiredH7069 RuthH7327 the MoabitessH4125, Mahlon’sH4248 widowH802, as my wifeH802, to raise upH6965 the nameH8034 of the deceasedH4191 throughH5921 his inheritanceH5159, so that hisH4191 nameH8034 will notH3808 disappearH3772 from amongH5973 his brothersH251 or from the gateH8179 of his homeH4725. YouH859 are witnesses todayH5707H3117.”

11“We are witnessesH5707,” saidH559 the eldersH2205 and allH3605 the peopleH5971 at the gateH8179. “May the LORDH3068 makeH5414 the womanH802 enteringH935H413 your homeH1004 like RachelH7354 and LeahH3812, whoH834 together built upH1129H8147 the houseH1004 of IsraelH3478. May you beH6213 prosperousH2428 in EphrathahH672 and famousH7121H8034 in BethlehemH1035. 12And may your houseH1004 becomeH1961 like the houseH1004 of PerezH6557, whomH834 TamarH8559 boreH3205 to JudahH3063, because ofH4480 the offspringH2233 the LORDH3068 will giveH5414 you byH4480 thisH2063 young womanH5291.”

Boaz Marries Ruth

13So BoazH1162 tookH3947 RuthH7327, and she becameH1961 his wifeH802. And when he had relations withH935 herH413, the LORDH3068 enabledH5414 her to conceiveH2032, and she gave birth toH3205 a sonH1121.

14Then the womenH802 saidH559 toH413 NaomiH5281, “BlessedH1288 be the LORDH3068, whoH834 has notH3808 leftH7673 you this dayH3117 without a kinsman-redeemerH1350. May his nameH8034 become famousH7121 in IsraelH3478. 15He will renewH1961H7725 your lifeH5315 and sustain youH3557 in your old ageH7872. ForH3588 your daughter-in-lawH3618, whoH834 lovesH157 you and is betterH2896 to you than sevenH7651 sonsH1121, has given him birthH3205.”

16And NaomiH5281 tookH3947 the childH3206, placed himH7896 on her lapH2436, and becameH1961 a nurseH539 to him. 17The neighborH7934 women saidH559, “A sonH1121 has been bornH3205 to NaomiH5281H7121H8034,” and they namedH7121 him ObedH5744. HeH1931 became the fatherH1 of JesseH3448, the fatherH1 of DavidH1732.
