Jeremiah 38:1-13

And ShephatiahH8203 the sonH1121 of MattanH4977, and GedaliahH1436 the sonH1121 of PashhurH6583, and Jucal the sonH1121 of ShelemiahH8018, and PashhurH6583 the sonH1121 of MalchijahH4441, heardH8085 the wordsH1697 that JeremiahH3414 spake unto allH3605 the peopleH5971, sayingH559,

ThusH3541 saith the LORDH3068, He that abideth in this cityH5892 shall dieH4191 by the swordH2719, by the famineH7458, and by the pestilenceH1698: but he that goeth forthH3318 to the ChaldeansH3778 shall liveH3427, and his lifeH5315 shall be unto him for a prey, and he shall liveH3427.

ThusH3541 saith the LORDH3068, This cityH5892 shall surelyH5414 be givenH5414 intoH3027 the handH3027 of the armyH2428 of the kingH4428 of BabylonH894, and he shall takeH3920 it.

Then the princesH8269 saidH559 unto the kingH4428, LetH4994 this manH376, weH3588 prayH4994 thee, be putH4191 to deathH4191; forasmuch as he weakeneth the handsH3027 of the menH376 of warH4421 that remainH7604 in this cityH5892, and the handsH3027 of allH3605 the peopleH5971, in speakingH1696 suchH2088 wordsH1697 unto them: for this manH376 seeketh notH369 the welfareH7965 of this peopleH5971, but the hurt.

And ZedekiahH6667 the kingH4428 saidH559, BeholdH2009, he is in your handH3027: for the kingH4428 is notH3201 he that canH3201 doH3201 anyH369 thingH1697 againstH854 youH3588.

Then tookH3947 they JeremiahH3414, and castH7993 him intoH413 the dungeon of MalchijahH4441 the king’s sonH1121, that was in the courtH2691 of the guardH4307: and they letH7971 downH7993 JeremiahH3414 with cordsH2256. And in the dungeon there was noH369 waterH4325, but mireH2916: and JeremiahH3414 sankH2883 in the mireH2916.

NowH3588 when Ebed-melechH5663 the EthiopianH3569, an eunuchH5631, whichH1931 was in the king’sH4428 houseH1004, heardH8085 that they had putH5414 JeremiahH3414 in the dungeon; the kingH4428 then sittingH3427 in the gateH8179 of BenjaminH1144;

Ebed-melechH5663 wentH3318 forthH3318 outH3318 of the king’sH4428 houseH1004, and spake to the kingH4428, sayingH559,

My lordH113 the kingH4428, theseH428 menH376 have doneH6213 evilH7489 in allH3605 that they have doneH6213 to JeremiahH3414 the prophetH5030, whomH834 they have castH7993 intoH413 the dungeon; and he is like to dieH4191 in the placeH8478 whereH834 he is becauseH3588 of the famineH7458: for there is noH369 moreH5750 breadH3899 in the cityH5892.

Then the kingH4428 commandedH6680 Ebed-melechH5663 the EthiopianH3569, sayingH559, TakeH3947 from hence thirtyH7970 menH376 with thee, and takeH3947 upH5927 JeremiahH3414 the prophetH5030 outH4480 of the dungeon, beforeH2962 he dieH4191.

SoH3947 Ebed-melechH5663 tookH3947 the menH376 with him, and wentH935 intoH413 the houseH1004 of the kingH4428 underH8478 the treasuryH214, and tookH3947 thence old castH7971 clouts and old rotten ragsH4418, and letH7971 them downH7971 by cordsH2256 intoH413 the dungeon to JeremiahH3414.

And Ebed-melechH5663 the EthiopianH3569 saidH559 unto JeremiahH3414, PutH7760 nowH4994 theseH7760 old cast clouts and rotten ragsH4418 underH8478 thine armholes underH8478 the cordsH2256. And JeremiahH3414 didH6213 soH3651.

SoH4480 they drewH4900 upH5927 JeremiahH3414 with the cordsH2256, and tookH853 him upH5927 outH4480 of the dungeon: and JeremiahH3414 remainedH3427 in the courtH2691 of the guardH4307.
