Revised Version 1895
Samuel 4:11-18
And the arkH727 of GodH430 was takenH3947; and the twoH8147 sonsH1121 of EliH5941, HophniH2652 and PhinehasH6372, were slain.
And there ranH7323 a manH376 of BenjaminH1144 outH5921 of the armyH4634, and cameH935 to ShilohH7887 the sameH1931 dayH3117 with his clothesH4055 rent, and with earthH127 uponH5921 his headH7218.
And when he cameH935, loH2009, EliH5941 satH3427 uponH5921 his seatH3678 by the wayH1870 side watchingH6822: for his heartH3820 trembled for the arkH727 of GodH430. And when the manH376 cameH935 intoH935 the cityH5892, and toldH5046 it, allH3605 the cityH5892 criedH2199 outH2199.
And when EliH5941 heardH8085 the noiseH6963 of the cryingH6963, he saidH559, WhatH4100 meaneth the noiseH6963 of this tumultH1995? And the manH376 hasted and cameH935 and toldH5046 EliH5941.
Now EliH5941 was ninetyH8673 and eightH8083 yearsH8141 oldH1121; and his eyesH5869 were setH6965, that he couldH3201 notH3808 seeH7200.
And the manH376 saidH559 unto EliH5941, I am he that cameH935 outH4480 of the armyH4634, and I fledH5127 todayH3117 outH4480 of the armyH4634. And he saidH559, HowH4100 wentH935 the matterH1697, my sonH1121?
And he that broughtH3947 the tidingsH1319 answeredH559 and saidH559, IsraelH3478 is fledH5127 beforeH6440 the PhilistinesH6430, and there hath been also a greatH1419 slaughterH4046 among the peopleH5971, and thy twoH8147 sonsH1121 also, HophniH2652 and PhinehasH6372, are deadH4191, and the arkH727 of GodH430 is takenH3947.
And it cameH1961 to passH1961, when he madeH1961 mentionH2142 of the arkH727 of GodH430, that he fellH5307 from offH5921 his seatH3678 backwardH322 by the sideH3027 of the gateH8179, and his neckH4665 brake, and he diedH4191: for he was an oldH2204 manH376, and heavyH3515. And he had judgedH8199 IsraelH3478 fortyH705 yearsH8141.
