Titus 1:4-16

4To 1Titus, 2my true 3son 4in a 5common faith: 6Grace and peace from God the Father and 7Christ Jesus our Savior.

5For this reason I left you in 8Crete, that you would set in order what remains and 9appoint 10elders in every city as I directed you, 6namely, 11if any man is beyond reproach, the 12husband of one wife, having children who believe, not accused of 13indecent behavior or 14rebellion. 7For the 1516overseer must be beyond reproach as 17God’s steward, not 18self-willed, not quick-tempered, not 19overindulging in wine, not 20a bully, 21not greedy for money, 8but 22hospitable, 23loving what is good, self-controlled, righteous, holy, disciplined, 924holding firmly the faithful word which is in accordance with the teaching, so that he will be able both to 25exhort in 26sound doctrine and to refute those who contradict it.

1027For there are many 28rebellious people, 29empty talkers and deceivers, especially 30those of the circumcision, 11who must be silenced because they are upsetting 31whole families, teaching 32things they should not teach 33for the sake of 34dishonest gain. 12One of them, a prophet of their own, said, “35Cretans are always liars, evil beasts, lazy gluttons.” 13This testimony is true. For this reason 36reprimand them 37severely so that they may be 38sound in the faith, 14not paying attention to Jewish 39myths and 40commandments of men who 41turn away from the truth. 1542To the pure, all things are pure; but 43to those who are defiled and unbelieving, nothing is pure, but both their 44mind and their conscience are defiled. 1645They profess to know God, but by their deeds they 46deny Him, being 47detestable and 48disobedient and 49worthless 50for any good deed.
