Romans 4:17-22

(as it is written: “I have made you 1a father of many nations”) in the presence of Him whom he believed, that is, God, 2who gives life to the dead and 3calls into being 4things that do not exist.

In hope against hope he believed, so that he might become 5a father of many nations according to that which had been spoken, “6So shall your 7descendants be.”

Without becoming weak in faith he contemplated his own body, now 8as good as dead since 9he was about a hundred years old, and 10the deadness of Sarah’s womb;

yet, with respect to the promise of God, he did not waver in unbelief but grew strong in faith, 11giving glory to God,

and 12being fully assured that 13what God had promised, He was able also to perform.

Therefore 14it was also credited to him as righteousness.
