Context of Mark 15:2

1Early in the morning the chief priests with the elders, scribes, and the entire Council immediately held a consultation; and they bound Jesus and led Him away, and turned Him over to Pilate. Pilate questioned Him: “So You are the King of the Jews?” And He answered him, “It is as you say.” 3And the chief priests started accusing Him of many things. 4But Pilate questioned Him again, saying, “Do You offer nothing in answer? See how many charges they are bringing against You!”

Commentaries on Mark 15:2

• Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 2The phrase King of the Jews is similar to the Jewish title "King of Israel" in 15:32. You have said so: The response Jesus gives to Pilate's question appears in all four Gospels. Jesus clearly understood himself to be a king (10:37–38; 11:9–10; 12:35–37). Pilate eventually crucified him for this reason (15:26). But Pilate knew Jesus was not a political threat (John 18:33–39).Read the comment
