John 12:14-50
14Jesus, finding a young donkey, sat on it; as it is written: 15“1Do not fear, daughter of Zion; behold, your King is coming, seated on a donkey’s colt.” 162These things His disciples did not understand at the first; but when Jesus 3was glorified, then they remembered that these things were written of Him, and that they had done these things for Him. 17So 4the 5people, who were with Him when He called Lazarus out of the tomb and raised him from the dead, continued to testify about Him. 186For this reason also the 7people went to meet Him, 8because they heard that He had performed this 9sign. 19So the Pharisees said 10to one another, “You see that you are not accomplishing anything; look, the world has gone after Him!”
20Now there were some 11Greeks among those who were going up to worship at 12the feast; 21these people then came to 13Philip, who was from 14Bethsaida of Galilee, and were making a request of him, saying, “Sir, we wish to see Jesus.” 22Philip came and told 15Andrew; then Andrew and Philip came and told Jesus. 23But Jesus answered them by saying, “16The hour has come for the Son of Man to 17be glorified. 24Truly, truly I say to you, 18unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit. 2519The one who loves his 20life loses it, and the one who 21hates his 22life in this world will keep it 23to eternal life. 26If anyone 24serves Me, he must follow Me; and 25where I am, there My servant will be also; if anyone 26serves Me, the Father will 27honor him.
27“28Now My soul has become troubled; and what am I to say? ‘29Father, save Me from 30this hour’? But for this purpose I came to this hour. 2831Father, glorify Your name.” Then a 32voice came out of heaven: “I have both glorified it, and will glorify it again.” 29So the crowd who stood by and heard it were saying that it had thundered; others were saying, “33An angel has spoken to Him!” 30Jesus responded and said, “34This voice has not come for My sake, but for yours. 3135Now judgment is upon this world; now 36the ruler of this world will be cast out. 32And I, if I 37am lifted up from the earth, will 38draw all people to Myself.” 33Now He was saying this 39to indicate what kind of death He was going to die. 34The crowd then answered Him, “We have heard from 40the Law that 41the 42Christ is to remain forever; and how is it that You say, ‘The 43Son of Man must be 44lifted up’? Who is this 45Son of Man?” 35So Jesus said to them, “46For a little while longer 47the Light is among you. 48Walk while you have the Light, so that darkness will not overtake you; also, the one who 49walks in the darkness does not know where he is going. 36While you have the Light, 50believe in the Light, so that you may become 51sons of Light.”
These things Jesus proclaimed, and He went away and 52hid Himself from them. 37But though He had performed so many 53signs in their sight, they still were not believing in Him. 38This happened so that the word of Isaiah the prophet which he spoke would be fulfilled: “54Lord, who has believed our report? And to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?” 39For this reason they could not believe, for Isaiah said again, 40“55He has blinded their eyes and He 56hardened their heart, so that they will not see with their eyes and understand with their heart, and 57be converted, and so I will not heal them.” 41These things Isaiah said because 58he saw His glory, and 59he spoke about Him. 42Nevertheless 60many, even of 61the rulers, believed in Him, but 62because of the Pharisees they were not confessing Him, so that they would not be 63excommunicated from the synagogue; 4364for they loved the 65approval of people rather than the 66approval of God.
44Now Jesus cried out and said, “67The one who believes in Me, does not believe only in Me, but also in Him who sent Me. 45And 68the one who sees Me sees Him who sent Me. 4669I have come as Light into the world, so that no one who believes in Me will remain in darkness. 47If anyone hears My 70teachings and does not keep them, I do not judge him; for 71I did not come to judge the world, but to save the world. 4872The one who rejects Me and does not 73accept My 74teachings has one who judges him: 75the word which I spoke. That will judge him on 76the last day. 4977For I did not speak 78on My own, but the Father Himself who sent Me 79has given Me a commandment as to what to say and what to speak. 50And I know that 80His commandment is eternal life; therefore the things I speak, I speak 81just as the Father has told Me.”
