John 1:3-51

31All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him 2not even one thing came into being that has come into being. 43In Him was life, and the life was 4the Light of mankind. 5And 5the Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not 6grasp it.

6A man 7came, one sent from God, and his name was 8John. 79He came 1011as a witness, to testify about the Light, 12so that all might believe through him. 81314He was not the Light, but he came to testify about the Light.

915This was 16the true Light 17that, coming into the world, enlightens every person. 10He was in the world, and 18the world came into being through Him, and yet the world did not 19know Him. 11He came to His 20own, and His own people did not 21accept Him. 12But 22as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become 23children of God, 24to those who 25believe in His name, 1326who were 27born, not of 28blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of a man, but of God.

14And 29the Word 30became flesh, and 31dwelt among us; and 32we saw His glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of 33grace and 34truth. 15John 35testified about Him and called out, saying, “This was He of whom I said, ‘36He who is coming after me has proved to be 37my superior, 38because He existed before me.’” 16For of His 39fullness 40we have all received, and 41grace upon grace. 17For 42the Law was given through Moses; 43grace and 44truth 45were realized through Jesus Christ. 1846No one has seen God at any time; 47God the only Son, who is 48in the 49arms of the Father, 50He has 51explained Him.

19This is 52the testimony of John, when 53the Jews sent priests and Levites to him 54from Jerusalem to ask him, “Who are you?” 20And he confessed and did not deny; and this is what he confessed: “55I am not the 56Christ.” 21And so they asked him, “What then? Are you 57Elijah?” And he said, “I am not.” “Are you 58the Prophet?” And he answered, “No.” 22Then they said to him, “Who are you? Tell us, so that we may give an answer to those who sent us. What do you say about yourself?” 23He said, “I am 59the voice of one calling 60out in the wilderness, ‘Make the way of the Lord straight,’ as Isaiah the prophet said.”

24And the messengers had been sent from the Pharisees. 25They asked him, and said to him, “Why then are you baptizing, if you are not the 61Christ, nor Elijah, nor 62the Prophet?” 26John answered them, saying, “63I baptize 64in water, but among you stands One whom you do not know. 27It is 65He who comes after me, of whom I am not worthy even to untie the 66strap of His sandal.” 28These things took place in Bethany 67beyond the Jordan, where John was baptizing people.

29The next day he saw Jesus coming to him, and said, “Behold, 68the Lamb of God who 69takes away the sin of the world! 30This is He in behalf of whom I said, ‘70After me is coming a Man who has proved to be 71my superior, 72because He existed before me.’ 31And I did not recognize 73Him, but so that He would be revealed to Israel, I came baptizing 74in water.” 32And John 75testified, saying, “76I have seen the Spirit descending as a dove out of heaven, and He remained upon Him. 33And I did not recognize 77Him, but He who sent me to baptize 78in water said to me, ‘He upon whom you see the Spirit descending and remaining upon Him, 79this is the One who baptizes 80in the Holy Spirit.’ 34And I myself have seen, and have testified that this is 81the 82Son of God.”

35Again 83the next day John was standing 84with two of his disciples, 36and he looked at Jesus as He walked, and said, “Behold, 85the Lamb of God!” 37And the two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Jesus. 38And Jesus turned and saw them following, and said to them, “What are you seeking?” They said to Him, “86Rabbi (which translated means Teacher), where are You staying?” 39He said to them, “Come, and you will see.” So they came and saw where He was staying, and they stayed with Him that day; it was about the 87tenth hour. 4088One of the two who heard John speak, and followed Him, was Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother. 41He first found his own brother Simon and said to him, “We have found the 89Messiah” (which translated means 90Christ). 42He brought him to Jesus. Jesus looked at him and said, “You are Simon the son of 9192John; you shall be called 93Cephas” (which is translated 9495Peter).

4396The next day He 97decided to go to 98Galilee, and He found 99Philip. And Jesus said to him, “100Follow Me.” 44Now 101Philip was from 102Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter. 45103Philip found 104Nathanael and said to him, “We have found Him of whom 105Moses wrote in the Law, and 106the prophets also wrote: Jesus 107the son of Joseph, from 108Nazareth!” 46Nathanael said to him, “109Can anything good be from Nazareth?” 110Philip said to him, “Come and see.” 47Jesus saw Nathanael coming to Him, and said of him, “Here is truly an 111Israelite, in whom there is no deceit!” 48Nathanael said to Him, “How do You know me?” Jesus answered and said to him, “Before 112Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you.” 49Nathanael answered Him, “113Rabbi, You are 114the Son of God; You are the 115King of Israel!” 50Jesus answered and said to him, “Because I said to you that I saw you under the fig tree, do you believe? You will see greater things than these.” 51And He said to him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, you will see 116heaven opened and 117the angels of God ascending and descending on 118the Son of Man.”
