John 1:3-51
31All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being. 42In Him was life, and the life was 3the Light of men. 54The Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not 5comprehend it.
6There 6came a man sent from God, whose name was 7John. 78He came 910as a witness, to testify about the Light, 11so that all might believe through him. 81213He was not the Light, but he came to testify about the Light.
9There was 14the true Light 15which, coming into the world, enlightens every man. 10He was in the world, and 16the world was made through Him, and the world did not know Him. 11He came to His 17own, and those who were His own did not receive Him. 12But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become 18children of God, even 19to those who believe in His name, 1320who were 21born, not of 22blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God.
14And 23the Word 24became flesh, and 2526dwelt among us, and 27we saw His glory, glory as of 28the only begotten from the Father, full of 29grace and 30truth. 15John 31testified about Him and cried out, saying, “This was He of whom I said, ‘32He who comes after me 33has a higher rank than I, 34for He existed before me.’” 16For of His 35fullness 36we have all received, and 37grace upon grace. 17For 38the Law was given through Moses; 39grace and 40truth 41were realized through Jesus Christ. 1842No one has seen God at any time; 43the only begotten God who is 44in the bosom of the Father, 45He has explained Him.
19This is 46the testimony of John, when 47the Jews sent to him priests and Levites 48from Jerusalem to ask him, “Who are you?” 20And he confessed and did not deny, but confessed, “49I am not 50the Christ.” 21They asked him, “What then? Are you 51Elijah?” And he said, “I am not.” “Are you 52the Prophet?” And he answered, “No.” 22Then they said to him, “Who are you, so that we may give an answer to those who sent us? What do you say about yourself?” 23He said, “I am 53a voice of one crying in the wilderness, ‘Make straight the way of the Lord,’ as Isaiah the prophet said.”
24Now they had been sent from the Pharisees. 25They asked him, and said to him, “Why then are you baptizing, if you are not the 54Christ, nor Elijah, nor 55the Prophet?” 26John answered them saying, “56I baptize 57in water, but among you stands One whom you do not know. 27It is 58He who comes after me, the 59thong of whose sandal I am not worthy to untie.” 28These things took place in Bethany 60beyond the Jordan, where John was baptizing.
29The next day he saw Jesus coming to him and said, “Behold, 61the Lamb of God who 62takes away the sin of the world! 30This is He on behalf of whom I said, ‘63After me comes a Man who 64has a higher rank than I, 65for He existed before me.’ 31I did not recognize 66Him, but so that He might be manifested to Israel, I came baptizing 67in water.” 32John 68testified saying, “69I have seen the Spirit descending as a dove out of heaven, and He remained upon Him. 33I did not recognize 70Him, but He who sent me to baptize 71in water said to me, ‘He upon whom you see the Spirit descending and remaining upon Him, 72this is the One who baptizes 73in the Holy Spirit.’ 34I myself have seen, and have testified that this is 74the Son of God.”
35Again 75the next day John was standing 76with two of his disciples, 36and he looked at Jesus as He walked, and said, “Behold, 77the Lamb of God!” 37The two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Jesus. 38And Jesus turned and saw them following, and said to them, “What do you seek?” They said to Him, “78Rabbi (which translated means Teacher), where are You staying?” 39He said to them, “Come, and you will see.” So they came and saw where He was staying; and they stayed with Him that day, for it was about the 79tenth hour. 4080One of the two who heard John speak and followed Him, was Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother. 41He found first his own brother Simon and said to him, “We have found the 81Messiah” (which translated means 82Christ). 42He brought him to Jesus. Jesus looked at him and said, “You are Simon the son of 8384John; you shall be called 85Cephas” (which is translated 8687Peter).
4388The next day He purposed to go into 89Galilee, and He found 90Philip. And Jesus said to him, “91Follow Me.” 44Now 92Philip was from 93Bethsaida, of the city of Andrew and Peter. 4594Philip found 95Nathanael and said to him, “We have found Him of whom 96Moses in the Law and also 97the Prophets wrote--Jesus of 98Nazareth, 99the son of Joseph.” 46Nathanael said to him, “100Can any good thing come out of Nazareth?” 101Philip said to him, “Come and see.” 47Jesus saw Nathanael coming to Him, and said of him, “Behold, an 102Israelite indeed, in whom there is no deceit!” 48Nathanael said to Him, “How do You know me?” Jesus answered and said to him, “Before 103Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you.” 49Nathanael answered Him, “104Rabbi, You are 105the Son of God; You are the 106King of Israel.” 50Jesus answered and said to him, “Because I said to you that I saw you under the fig tree, do you believe? You will see greater things than these.” 51And He said to him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, you will see 107the heavens opened and 108the angels of God ascending and descending on 109the Son of Man.”
