Habakkuk 3
God’s People Saved
1A prayer of Habakkuk the prophet, according to 1Shigionoth.
2Lord, I have 2heard 3the report about You, and 4I was 5afraid. Lord, 6revive 7Your work in the midst of the years, In the midst of the years make it known. In anger remember 89mercy.
3God comes from 10Teman, And the Holy One from Mount 11Paran. Selah His 12splendor covers the heavens, And the 13earth is full of His praise.4His 14radiance is like the sunlight; He has rays flashing from His hand, And the hiding of His 15might is there.5Before Him goes 16plague, And 17plague comes forth 18after Him.6He stood and caused the earth to shudder; He looked and 19caused the nations to jump. Yes, the everlasting mountains were shattered, The ancient hills 20collapsed. His paths are 21everlasting.7I saw the tents of Cushan under 22distress, The tent curtains of the land of 23Midian were trembling.
8Did the Lord rage against the 24rivers, Or was Your anger against the rivers, Or was Your rage against the 25sea, That You 26rode on Your horses, On Your 27chariots of salvation?9You removed Your 28bow from its holder, The arrows of Your word were 29sworn. Selah You 30divided the earth with rivers.10The mountains saw You and quaked; The downpour of waters swept by. The deep 31raised its voice, It lifted high its hands.1132Sun and moon stood in their lofty places; They went away at the 33light of Your arrows, At the radiance of Your flashing spear.12In indignation You 34marched through the earth; In anger You 3536trampled the nations.13You went forth for the 37salvation of Your people, For the salvation of Your 38anointed. You smashed the 39head of the house of evil To uncover him from 40foot to neck. Selah14You pierced with his 41own 42arrows The head of his 43leaders. They 44stormed in to scatter 45us; Their arrogance was like those Who 46devour the oppressed in secret.15You 47trampled on the sea with Your horses, On the 48foam of many waters.
16I heard, and my 49inner parts 50trembled; At the sound, my lips quivered. Decay enters my 51bones, And in my place I tremble; Because I 52must 53wait quietly for the day of distress, 54For the 55people to arise who will attack us.17Even if the 56fig tree does not blossom, And there is no 57fruit on the vines, If the yield of the 58olive fails, And the fields produce no food, Even if the 59flock disappears from the fold, And there are 60no cattle in the stalls,18Yet I will 61triumph in the Lord, I will 62rejoice in the 63God of my salvation.19The Lord 64God is my 65strength, And 66He has made my feet like deer’s feet, And has me walk on my 67high places. For the choir director, on my stringed instruments.
