Habakkuk 3

God’s Deliverance of His People

1A prayer of Habakkuk the prophet, according to 1Shigionoth.

2Lord, I have 2heard 3the report about You and 4I 5fear. O Lord, 6revive 7Your work in the midst of the years, In the midst of the years make it known; In wrath remember 89mercy.

3God comes from 10Teman, And the Holy One from Mount 11Paran. Selah. His 12splendor covers the heavens, And the 13earth is full of His praise.4His 14radiance is like the sunlight; He has rays flashing from His hand, And there is the hiding of His 15power.5Before Him goes 16pestilence, And 17plague comes 18after Him.6He stood and surveyed the earth; He looked and 19startled the nations. Yes, the perpetual mountains were shattered, The ancient hills 20collapsed. His ways are 21everlasting.7I saw the tents of Cushan under 22distress, The tent curtains of the land of 23Midian were trembling.

8Did the Lord rage against the 24rivers, Or was Your anger against the rivers, Or was Your wrath against the 25sea, That You 26rode on Your horses, On Your 27chariots of salvation?9Your 28bow was made bare, The rods of 29chastisement were sworn. Selah. You 30cleaved the earth with rivers.10The mountains saw You and quaked; The downpour of waters swept by. The deep 31uttered forth its voice, It lifted high its hands.1132Sun and moon stood in their places; They went away at the 33light of Your arrows, At the radiance of Your gleaming spear.12In indignation You 34marched through the earth; In anger You 3536trampled the nations.13You went forth for the 37salvation of Your people, For the salvation of Your 38anointed. You struck the 39head of the house of the evil To lay him open from 40thigh to neck. Selah.14You pierced with his 41own 42spears The head of his 43throngs. They 44stormed in to scatter 45us; Their exultation was like those Who 46devour the oppressed in secret.15You 47trampled on the sea with Your horses, On the 48surge of many waters.

16I heard and my 49inward parts 50trembled, At the sound my lips quivered. Decay enters my 51bones, And in my place I tremble. Because I must 52wait quietly for the day of distress, 53For the 54people to arise who will invade us.17Though the 55fig tree should not blossom And there be no 56fruit on the vines, Though the yield of the 57olive should fail And the fields produce no food, Though the 58flock should be cut off from the fold And there be 59no cattle in the stalls,18Yet I will 60exult in the Lord, I will 61rejoice in the 62God of my salvation.19The Lord 63God is my 64strength, And 65He has made my feet like hinds’ feet, And makes me walk on my 66high places. For the choir director, on my stringed instruments.
