Context of Genesis 5:28
26Then Methuselah lived 782 years after he fathered Lamech, and he fathered other sons and daughters. 27So all the days of Methuselah were 969 years, and he died. Now Lamech lived 182 years, and fathered a son. 29And he named him Noah, saying, “This one will give us comfort from our work and from the hard labor of our hands caused by the ground which the Lord has cursed.” 30Then Lamech lived 595 years after he fathered Noah, and he fathered other sons and daughters.

Noah signifies rest; his parents gave him that name, with a prospect of his being a great blessing to his generation. - Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 28-29Like Enoch (5:21–24), the typical family line pattern is interrupted to share key theological details about Noah. The name Noah sounds like the Hebrew words nakham, which means "relief" or "comfort," and nuakh, which means "rest." Noah was the first person born after Adam died (see study note on 5:5). His father, Lamech, hoped Noah would undo the curse caused by Adam's sin (3:17). See 8:21; 2 Corinthians 1:3–7; 2 Thessalonians 2:16–17.Read the comment

It is useless to inquire whether and what secondary causes may have contributed to this…Read the comment
