Genesis 2:7-25
7Then the Lord God formed the man of 1dust from the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and the 2man became a living 3person. 8The Lord God planted a 4garden toward the east, in Eden; and there He placed the man whom He had formed. 9Out of the ground the Lord God caused 5every tree to grow that is pleasing to the sight and good for food; 6the tree of life was also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.
10Now a 7river 8flowed out of Eden to water the garden; and from there it divided and became four 9rivers. 11The name of the first is Pishon; it 10flows around the whole land of 11Havilah, where there is gold. 12The gold of that land is good; the bdellium and the onyx stone are there as well. 13The name of the second river is Gihon; it 12flows around the whole land of Cush. 14The name of the third river is 1314Tigris; it 15flows east of Assyria. And the fourth river is the 1617Euphrates.
15Then the Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to cultivate it and tend it. 16The Lord God 18commanded the man, saying, “From any tree of the garden you may freely eat; 17but from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not 19eat, for on the day that you eat from it 20you will certainly die.”
18Then the Lord God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone; 21I will make him a helper 22suitable for him.” 1923And out of the ground the Lord God formed every animal of the field and every bird of the sky, and 24brought them to the man to see what he would call them; and whatever the man called a living creature, that was its name. 20The man gave names to all the livestock, and to the birds of the sky, and to every animal of the field, but for 25Adam there was not found 26a helper 27suitable for him. 21So the Lord God caused a 28deep sleep to fall upon the man, and he slept; then He took one of his ribs and closed up the flesh at that place. 22And the Lord God 29fashioned into a woman 30the rib which He had taken from the man, and brought her to the man. 23Then the man said, “31At last this is bone of my bones, And flesh of my flesh; 32She shall be called 33‘woman,’ Because 34she was taken out of 35man.” 2436For this reason a man shall leave his father and his mother, and be joined to his wife; and they shall become one flesh. 2537And the man and his wife were both naked, but they were not ashamed.
