Context of Acts 13:41
39and through Him everyone who believes is freed from all things, from which you could not be freed through the Law of Moses. 40Therefore, see that the thing spoken of in the Prophets does not come upon you: ‘Look, you scoffers, and be astonished, and perish; For I am accomplishing a work in your days, A work which you will never believe, though someone should describe it to you.’” 42As Paul and Barnabas were going out, the people repeatedly begged to have these things spoken to them the next Sabbath. 43Now when the meeting of the synagogue had broken up, many of the Jews and the God-fearing proselytes followed Paul and Barnabas, who were speaking to them and urging them to continue in the grace of God.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 41Behold, ye despisers - There is a remarkable difference here between the Hebrew text in Habakkuk, and that in the Septuagint, which is a little abridged here by St. Paul. I shall exhibit the three texts. Heb: - יספר כי תאמינו לא בימיכם פעל פעל כי תמהו והתמהו והביטו בגוים ראו Reu bagoyim vehabitu vehitammehu ; temehu ; ki poal poel bimeycem, lo teaminu hi yesupar . - Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 41Behold, ye despisers - Hebrew, “Behold, ye among the pagan.” The change from this expression to “ye despisers” was made by the Septuagint translators by a very slight alteration in the Hebrew word - probably from a variation in the copy which they used. It arose from reading בּוגדים bowgadiyminstead of בגּוים bagowyimThe Syriac, the Arabic, as well as the Septuagint, follow this reading. It is by Christ only that those who believe in him, and none else, are justified from all things; from all the guilt and stain of sin, from which they could not be justified by…Read the comment
