Context of 2 Chronicles 16:9
7At that time Hanani the seer came to Asa king of Judah and said to him, “Because you have relied on the king of Aram and have not relied on the Lord your God, for that reason the army of the king of Aram has escaped from your hand. 8Were not the Ethiopians and the Lubim an immense army with very many chariots and horsemen? Yet because you relied on the Lord, He handed them over to you. For the eyes of the Lord roam throughout the earth, so that He may strongly support those whose heart is completely His. You have acted foolishly in this. Indeed, from now on you will have wars.” 10Then Asa was angry with the seer and put him in prison, for he was enraged at him for this. And Asa mistreated some of the people at the same time. 11Now, the acts of Asa from the first to the last, behold, they are written in the Book of the Kings of Judah and Israel.

- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 7-9Hanani the seer told Asa he would face war from then on because he disobeyed. This judgment contrasted with Asa’s earlier victory over Zerah, when he trusted in the Lord despite the odds (2 Chronicles 14:9–13). Asa's earlier trust in the Lord brought peace to the land (2 Chronicles 14:5), but now his reliance on military power would lead to ongoing warfare.Read the comment
- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 7-107-10. Hanani the seer came to Asa ... and said--His object was to show the king his error in forming his recent league with Ben-hadad.
