1 Timothy 6:3-19

3If anyone 1advocates a different doctrine and does not 2agree with 3sound words, those of our Lord Jesus Christ, and with the doctrine 4conforming to godliness, 4he is 5conceited and understands nothing; but he 6has a sick craving for 7controversial questions and 8disputes about words, from which come envy, strife, abusive language, evil suspicions, 5and constant friction between 9people of depraved mind and deprived of the truth, who 10suppose that 11godliness is a means of gain. 612But godliness actually is a means of 13great gain when accompanied by 14contentment. 7For 15we have brought nothing into the world, so we cannot take anything out of it, either. 8If we 16have food and 17covering, with these we shall be content. 918But those who want to get rich fall into temptation and 19a trap, and many foolish and harmful desires which plunge people into ruin and destruction. 10For 20the love of money is a root of all 21sorts of evil, and some by longing for it have 22wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many 23griefs.

11But 24flee from these things, you 25man of God, and pursue righteousness, godliness, 26faith, 27love, 28perseverance, and gentleness. 1229Fight the good fight of 30faith; 31take hold of the eternal life 32to which you were called, and for which you made the good 33confession in the presence of 34many witnesses. 1335I direct you in the presence of God, who 36gives life to all things, and of 37Christ Jesus, who testified the 38good confession 39before Pontius Pilate, 14that you keep the commandment without 40fault or reproach until the 41appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ, 15which He will 42bring about at 43the proper time--He who is 44the blessed and 45only Sovereign, 46the King of 47kings and 48Lord of 49lords, 1650who alone possesses immortality and 51dwells in unapproachable light, 52whom 53no one has seen or can see. 54To Him be honor and eternal dominion! Amen.

17Instruct those who are rich in 55this present world 56not to be conceited or to 57set their hope on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, 58who richly supplies us with all things to enjoy. 18Instruct them to do good, to be rich in 59good 60works, 61to be generous and ready to share, 1962storing up for themselves the treasure of a good foundation for the future, so that they may 63take hold of that which is truly life.
