Context of Isaiah 10:32
30Cry aloud with your voice, O daughter of Gallim! Pay attention, Laishah and wretched Anathoth! 31Madmenah has fled. The inhabitants of Gebim have sought refuge. Yet today he will halt at Nob; He shakes his fist at the mountain of the daughter of Zion, the hill of Jerusalem. 33Behold, the Lord, the God of hosts, will lop off the boughs with a terrible crash; Those also who are tall in stature will be cut down And those who are lofty will be abased. 34He will cut down the thickets of the forest with an iron axe, And Lebanon will fall by the Mighty One.

- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 32As yet shall he remain - This is still a description of his advancing toward Jerusalem. He would make a station at Nob and remain there a day, meaning, perhaps, “only” one day, such would be his impatience to attack and destroy Jerusalem. At Nob - Nob was a city of Benjamin, inhabited by priests; Nehemiah 11:32. When David was driven away by Saul, he came to this city, and received supplies from Ahimelech the priest; 1 Samuel 21:1-6. - Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 20-34Verses 20-34 By our afflictions we may learn not to make creatures our confidence. Those only can with comfort stay upon God, who return to him in truth, not in pretence and profession only. God will justly bring this wasting away on a provoking people, but will graciously set bounds to it. It is against the mind and will of God, that his people, whatever happens, should give way to fear. God's anger against his people is but for a moment; and when that…Read the comment

The cities are listed in order from the north toward Jerusalem. The army moves closer and closer to the city. When they reach Jerusalem, they are forced to stop and retreat. God was with Jerusalem. Because of this, Assyria would not succeed. In time, Assyria itself would be destroyed. This passage may refer to Sennacherib’s invasion in 701 BC (see…Read the comment
