Isaiah 55
The Free Offer of Mercy
1“Ho! Every one who 1thirsts, come to the waters; And you who have 2no 3money come, buy and eat. Come, buy 4wine and milk 5Without money and without cost.2Why do you 6spend money for what is 7not bread, And your wages for what does not satisfy? Listen carefully to Me, and 8eat what is good, And 9delight yourself in abundance.310Incline your ear and come to Me. Listen, that 11you may 12live; And I will make 13an everlasting covenant with you, According to the 14faithful mercies 15shown to David.4Behold, I have made 16him a witness to the peoples, A 17leader and commander for the peoples.5Behold, you will call a 18nation you do not know, And a nation which knows you not will 19run to you, Because of the Lord your God, even the Holy One of Israel; For He has 20glorified you.”
621Seek the Lord while He may be found; 22Call upon Him while He is near.723Let the wicked forsake his way And the unrighteous man his 24thoughts; And let him 25return to the Lord, And He will have 26compassion on him, And to our God, For He will 27abundantly pardon.8“For My thoughts are not 28your thoughts, Nor are 29your ways My ways,” declares the Lord.9“For 30as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways And My thoughts than your thoughts.10For as the 31rain and the snow come down from heaven, And do not return there without watering the earth And making it bear and sprout, And furnishing 32seed to the sower and bread to the eater;11So will My 33word be which goes forth from My mouth; It will 34not return to Me empty, Without 35accomplishing what I desire, And without succeeding in the matter for which I sent it.12For you will go out with 36joy And be led forth with 37peace; The 38mountains and the hills will break forth into shouts of joy before you, And all the 39trees of the field will clap their hands.13Instead of the 40thorn bush the 41cypress will come up, And instead of the 42nettle the myrtle will come up, And 43it will be a 4445memorial to the Lord, For an everlasting 46sign which 47will not be cut off.”
