Context of Isaiah 10:32
30Shout out, daughter of Gallim! Pay attention, Laishah! Answer her, Anathoth! 31Madmenah flees, the residents of Gebim have hidden. This very day, standing in Nob, they shake their fist at Daughter Zion’s mountain – at the hill of Jerusalem. 33Look, the sovereign master, the Lord who commands armies, is ready to cut off the branches with terrifying power. The tallest trees will be cut down, the loftiest ones will be brought low. 34The thickets of the forest will be chopped down with an ax, and mighty Lebanon will fall.

- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 32As yet shall he remain - This is still a description of his advancing toward Jerusalem. He would make a station at Nob and remain there a day, meaning, perhaps, “only” one day, such would be his impatience to attack and destroy Jerusalem. At Nob - Nob was a city of Benjamin, inhabited by priests; Nehemiah 11:32. When David was driven away by Saul, he came to this city, and received supplies from Ahimelech the priest; 1 Samuel 21:1-6. - Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 20-34Verses 20-34 By our afflictions we may learn not to make creatures our confidence. Those only can with comfort stay upon God, who return to him in truth, not in pretence and profession only. God will justly bring this wasting away on a provoking people, but will graciously set bounds to it. It is against the mind and will of God, that his people, whatever happens, should give way to fear. God's anger against his people is but for a moment; and when that…Read the comment

The cities are listed in order from the north toward Jerusalem. The army moves closer and closer to the city. When they reach Jerusalem, they are forced to stop and retreat. God was with Jerusalem. Because of this, Assyria would not succeed. In time, Assyria itself would be destroyed. This passage may refer to Sennacherib’s invasion in 701 BC (see…Read the comment
