Deuteronomy 4:1-20

1Now therefore hearkenשְׁמַ֤עshe.Ma'H8085,O Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֗לYis.ra.'ElH3478,unto the statutesהַֽחֻקִּים֙ha.chu.KimH2706and unto the judgmentsהַמִּשְׁפָּטִ֔יםha.mish.pa.TimH4941,which I teachמְלַמֵּ֥דme.la.MedH3925you, for to doלַעֲשׂ֑וֹתla.'a.SotH6213them,that ye may liveתִּֽחְי֗וּtich.YuH2421,and go inוּבָאתֶם֙u.va.TemH935and possessוִֽירִשְׁתֶּ֣םvi.rish.TemH3423the landהָאָ֔רֶץha.'A.retzH776which the Lordיְהוָ֛הYah.wehH3068Godאֱלֹהֵ֥י'e.lo.HeiH430of your fathersאֲבֹתֵיכֶ֖ם'a.vo.tei.KhemH1givethנֹתֵ֥ןno.TenH5414you.

2Ye shall not addתֹסִ֗פוּto.Si.fuH3254unto the wordהַדָּבָר֙ha.da.VarH1697which I commandמְצַוֶּ֣הme.tza.VehH6680you, neither shall ye diminishתִגְרְע֖וּtig.re.'UH1639oughtfrom it, that ye may keepלִשְׁמֹ֗רlish.MorH8104the commandmentsמִצְוֹת֙mitz.VotH4687of the Lordיְהוָ֣הYah.wehH3068your Godאֱלֹֽהֵיכֶ֔ם'e.lo.hei.KhemH430which I commandמְצַוֶּ֥הme.tza.VehH6680you.

3Your eyesעֵֽינֵיכֶם֙'ei.nei.KhemH5869have seenהָֽרֹאֹ֔תha.ro.'OtH7200what the Lordיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068didעָשָׂ֥ה'a.SahH6213because of Baal–peorH1187:for all the menהָאִ֗ישׁha.'IshH376that followedהָלַךְ֙ אַחֲרֵ֣יha.laKh 'a.cha.ReiH1980 H310Baal–peorH1187,the Lordיְהוָ֥הYah.wehH3068thy Godאֱלֹהֶ֖יךָ'e.lo.Hei.khaH430hath destroyedהִשְׁמִיד֛וֹhish.mi.DoH8045them from amongמִקִּרְבֶּֽךָ׃mi.kir.Be.chaH7130you.

4But ye that did cleaveהַדְּבֵקִ֔יםha.de.ve.KimH1695unto the Lordבַּיהוָ֖הba.Yah.wehH3068your Godאֱלֹהֵיכֶ֑ם'e.lo.hei.KhemH430arealiveחַיִּ֥יםchai.YimH2416every one of you this dayהַיּֽוֹם׃hai.YomH3117.

5Beholdרְאֵ֣ה׀re.'EhH7200,I have taughtלִמַּ֣דְתִּיli.Mad.tiH3925you statutesחֻקִּים֙chu.KimH2706and judgmentsוּמִשְׁפָּטִ֔יםu.mish.pa.TimH4941,even asH834the Lordיְהוָ֣הYah.wehH3068my Godאֱלֹהָ֑י'e.lo.HaiH430commandedצִוַּ֖נִיtzi.Va.niH6680me, that ye should doלַעֲשׂ֣וֹתla.'a.SotH6213so inבְּקֶ֣רֶבbe.Ke.revH7130the landהָאָ֔רֶץha.'A.retzH776whither ye goבָּאִ֥יםba.'ImH935to possessלְרִשְׁתָּֽהּ׃le.rish.TahH3423it.

6Keepוּשְׁמַרְתֶּם֮u.she.mar.TemH8104therefore and doוַעֲשִׂיתֶם֒va.'a.si.TemH6213them; for this isyour wisdomחָכְמַתְכֶם֙cha.khe.mat.KhemH2451and your understandingוּבִ֣ינַתְכֶ֔םu.Vi.nat.KhemH998in the sightלְעֵינֵ֖יle.'ei.NeiH5869of the nationsהָעַמִּ֑יםha.'a.MimH5971,which shall hearיִשְׁמְע֗וּןyish.me.'UnH8085all these statutesהַחֻקִּ֣יםha.chu.KimH2706,and sayוְאָמְר֗וּve.'a.me.RuH559,Surely this greatהַגָּד֖וֹלha.ga.DolH1419nationהַגּ֥וֹיha.GoyH1471isa wiseחָכָ֣םcha.KhamH2450and understandingוְנָב֔וֹןve.na.VonH995peopleעַם־'am-H5971.

7For what nationג֣וֹיGoyH1471is there sogreatגָּד֔וֹלga.DolH1419, who hathGodאֱלֹהִ֖ים'E.lo.HimH430sonighקְרֹבִ֣יםke.ro.VimH7138unto them, as the Lordכַּיהוָ֣הka.Yah.wehH3068our Godאֱלֹהֵ֔ינוּ'e.lo.Hei.nuH430is in all things thatwe callקָרְאֵ֖נוּka.re.'E.nuH7121upon him for?

8And what nationגּ֣וֹיGoyH1471is there sogreatגָּד֔וֹלga.DolH1419,that hath statutesחֻקִּ֥יםchu.KimH2706and judgmentsוּמִשְׁפָּטִ֖יםu.mish.pa.TimH4941sorighteousצַדִּיקִ֑םtza.di.KimH6662as all this lawהַתּוֹרָ֣הha.to.RahH8451,which I setנֹתֵ֥ןno.TenH5414beforeלִפְנֵיכֶ֖םlif.nei.KhemH6440you this dayהַיּֽוֹם׃hai.YomH3117?

9Only take heedהִשָּׁ֣מֶרhi.Sha.merH8104to thyself, and keepוּשְׁמֹ֨רu.she.MorH8104thy soulנַפְשְׁךָ֜naf.she.KhaH5315diligentlyמְאֹ֗דme.'OdH3966,lest thou forgetתִּשְׁכַּ֨חtish.KachH7911the thingsהַדְּבָרִ֜יםha.de.va.RimH1697which thine eyesעֵינֶ֗יךָ'ei.Nei.khaH5869have seenרָא֣וּra.'UH7200,and lest they departיָס֙וּרוּ֙ya.Su.ruH5493from thy heartמִלְּבָ֣בְךָ֔mi.le.Va.ve.khaH3824all the daysיְמֵ֣יye.MeiH3117of thy lifeחַיֶּ֑יךָchai.Yei.khaH2416:but teachוְהוֹדַעְתָּ֥םve.ho.da'.TamH3045them thy sonsלְבָנֶ֖יךָle.va.Nei.khaH1121,and thy sons’וְלִבְנֵ֥יve.liv.NeiH1121sonsבָנֶֽיךָ׃va.Nei.khaH1121;

10Speciallythe dayי֗וֹםYomH3117that thou stoodestעָמַ֜דְתָּ'a.Mad.taH5975beforeלִפְנֵ֨יlif.NeiH6440the Lordיְהוָ֣הYah.wehH3068thy Godאֱלֹהֶיךָ֮'e.lo.hei.KhaH430in Horebבְּחֹרֵב֒be.cho.RevH2722,when the Lordיְהוָ֜הYah.wehH3068saidבֶּאֱמֹ֨רbe.'e.MorH559unto me, GatherH6950me the peopleהָעָ֔םha.'AmH5971togetherH6950,and I will make them hearוְאַשְׁמִעֵ֖םve.'ash.mi.'EmH8085my wordsדְּבָרָ֑יde.va.RaiH1697,that they may learnיִלְמְד֜וּןyil.me.DunH3925to fearלְיִרְאָ֣הle.yir.'AhH3372me all the daysהַיָּמִים֙hai.ya.MimH3117that they shall liveחַיִּים֙chai.YimH2416upon the earthהָ֣אֲדָמָ֔הha.'a.da.MahH127, and thatthey may teachיְלַמֵּדֽוּן׃ye.la.me.DunH3925their childrenבְּנֵיהֶ֖םbe.nei.HemH1121.

11And ye came nearוַתִּקְרְב֥וּןva.tik.re.VunH7126and stoodוַתַּֽעַמְד֖וּןva.ta.'am.DunH5975under the mountainהָהָ֑רha.HarH2022;and the mountainוְהָהָ֞רve.ha.HarH2022burnedבֹּעֵ֤רbo.'ErH1197with fireבָּאֵשׁ֙ba.'EshH784unto the midstלֵ֣בlevH3820of heavenהַשָּׁמַ֔יִםha.sha.Ma.yimH8064,with darknessוַעֲרָפֶֽל׃va.'a.ra.FelH6205,cloudsעָנָ֥ן'a.NanH6051,and thick darknessחֹ֖שֶׁךְCho.shekhH2822.

12And the Lordיְהוָ֛הYah.wehH3068spakeוַיְדַבֵּ֧רvay.da.BerH1696unto you out of the midstמִתּ֣וֹךְmi.TokhH8432of the fireהָאֵ֑שׁha.'EshH784:ye heardשֹׁמְעִ֔יםsho.me.'ImH8085the voiceק֤וֹלKolH6963of the wordsדְּבָרִים֙de.va.RimH1697,but sawרֹאִ֖יםro.'ImH7200no similitudeוּתְמוּנָ֛הu.te.mu.NahH8544;onlyזוּלָתִ֥יzu.la.TiH2108ye hearda voiceקֽוֹל׃KolH6963.

13And he declaredוַיַּגֵּ֨דvai.ya.GedH5046unto you his covenantבְּרִית֗וֹbe.ri.ToH1285,which he commandedצִוָּ֤הtzi.VahH6680you to performלַעֲשׂ֔וֹתla.'a.SotH6213, eventenעֲשֶׂ֖רֶת'a.Se.retH6235commandmentsהַדְּבָרִ֑יםha.de.va.RimH1697;and he wroteוַֽיִּכְתְּבֵ֔םvai.yikh.te.VemH3789them upon twoשְׁנֵ֖יshe.NeiH8147tablesלֻח֥וֹתlu.ChotH3871of stoneאֲבָנִֽים׃'a.va.NimH68.

14And the Lordיְהוָה֙Yah.wehH3068commandedצִוָּ֤הtzi.VahH6680me at that timeבָּעֵ֣תba.'EtH6256to teachלְלַמֵּ֣דle.la.MedH3925you statutesחֻקִּ֖יםchu.KimH2706and judgmentsוּמִשְׁפָּטִ֑יםu.mish.pa.TimH4941,that ye might doלַעֲשֹׂתְכֶ֣םla.'a.so.te.KhemH6213them in the landבָּאָ֕רֶץba.'A.retzH776whither ye go overעֹבְרִ֥ים'oe.RimH5674to possessלְרִשְׁתָּֽהּ׃le.rish.TahH3423it.

15Take ye therefore goodמְאֹ֖דme.'OdH3966heedוְנִשְׁמַרְתֶּ֥םve.nish.mar.TemH8104unto yourselvesלְנַפְשֹׁתֵיכֶ֑םle.naf.sho.tei.KhemH5315;for ye sawרְאִיתֶם֙re.'i.TemH7200no manner of similitudeתְּמוּנָ֔הte.mu.NahH8544on the dayבְּי֗וֹםbe.YomH3117thatthe Lordיְהוָ֧הYah.wehH3068spakeדִּבֶּ֨רdi.BerH1696unto you in Horebבְּחֹרֵ֖בbe.cho.RevH2722out of the midstמִתּ֥וֹךְmi.TokhH8432of the fireהָאֵֽשׁ׃ha.'EshH784:

16Lest ye corruptתַּשְׁחִת֔וּןtash.chi.TunH7843yourselves,and makeוַעֲשִׂיתֶ֥םva.'a.si.TemH6213you a graven imageפֶּ֖סֶלPe.selH6459,the similitudeתְּמוּנַ֣תte.mu.NatH8544of any figureסָ֑מֶלSa.melH5566,the likenessתַּבְנִ֥יתtav.NitH8403of maleזָכָ֖רza.KharH2145or femaleנְקֵבָֽה׃ne.ke.VahH5347,

17The likenessתַּבְנִ֕יתtav.NitH8403of any beastבְּהֵמָ֖הbe.he.MahH929that ison the earthבָּאָ֑רֶץba.'A.retzH776,the likenessתַּבְנִית֙tav.NitH8403of any wingedכָּנָ֔ףka.NafH3671fowlצִפּ֣וֹרtzi.PorH6833that fliethתָּע֖וּףta.'UfH5774in the airבַּשָּׁמָֽיִם׃ba.sha.Ma.yimH8064,

18The likenessתַּבְנִ֕יתtav.NitH8403of any thing that creepethרֹמֵ֖שׂro.MesH7430on the groundבָּאֲדָמָ֑הba.'a.da.MahH127,the likenessתַּבְנִ֛יתtav.NitH8403of any fishדָּגָ֥הda.GahH1710that isin the watersבַּמַּ֖יִםba.Ma.yimH4325beneathמִתַּ֥חַתmi.Ta.chatH8478the earthלָאָֽרֶץ׃la.'A.retzH776:

19And lest thou lift upתִּשָּׂ֨אti.Sa'H5375thine eyesעֵינֶ֜יךָ'ei.Nei.khaH5869unto heavenהַשָּׁמַ֗יְמָהha.sha.May.mahH8064,and when thou seestוְֽ֠רָאִיתָVe.ra.'i.taH7200the sunהַשֶּׁ֨מֶשׁha.She.meshH8121,and the moonהַיָּרֵ֜חַhai.ya.Re.achH3394,and the starsהַכּֽוֹכָבִ֗יםha.ko.kha.VimH3556, evenall the hostצְבָ֣אtze.Va'H6635of heavenהַשָּׁמַ֔יִםha.sha.Ma.yimH8064,shouldest be drivenוְנִדַּחְתָּ֛ve.ni.dach.TaH5080to worshipוְהִשְׁתַּחֲוִ֥יתָve.hish.ta.cha.Vi.taH7812them, and serveוַעֲבַדְתָּ֑םva.'a.vad.TamH5647them, which the Lordיְהוָ֤הYah.wehH3068thy Godאֱלֹהֶ֙יךָ֙'e.lo.Hei.khaH430hath dividedחָלַ֜קcha.LakH2505unto all nationsהָֽעַמִּ֔יםha.'a.MimH5971under the whole heavenהַשָּׁמָֽיִם׃ha.sha.Ma.yimH8064.

20But the Lordיְהוָ֔הYah.wehH3068hath takenלָקַ֣חla.KachH3947you, and brought you forthוַיּוֹצִ֥אvai.yo.Tzi'H3318out of the ironהַבַּרְזֶ֖לha.bar.ZelH1270furnaceמִכּ֥וּרmi.KurH3564, evenout of Egyptמִמִּצְרָ֑יִםmi.mitz.Ra.yimH4714,to be unto him a peopleלְעַ֥םle.'AmH5971of inheritanceנַחֲלָ֖הna.cha.LahH5159, as ye arethis dayכַּיּ֥וֹםkai.YomH3117.
