6Now the kingהַמֶּ֤לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428and his menוַֽאֲנָשָׁיו֙va.'a.na.ShavH582marchedוַיֵּ֨לֶךְvai.Ye.lekhH1980to Jerusalemיְר֣וּשָׁלִַ֔םye.Ru.sha.LimH3389againstאֶל־'el-H413the Jebusitesהַיְבֻסִ֖יhay.vu.SiH2983who inhabitedיוֹשֵׁ֣בyo.ShevH3427the landהָאָ֑רֶץha.'A.retzH776.The Jebusites saidוַיֹּ֨אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to Davidלְדָוִ֤דle.da.VidH1732: “You will neverלֹא־lo'-H3808get inתָב֣וֹאta.Vo'H935hereהֵ֔נָּהHe.nahH2008.Evenכִּ֣י אִם־ki 'im-H3588 H518the blindהַעִוְרִ֤יםha.'iv.RimH5787and lameלֵאמֹר֙ וְהַפִּסְחִים֙le.Mor ve.ha.pis.ChimH6455 H559can repel youהֱסִֽירְךָ֗he.si.re.KhaH5493.”For they thoughtלֵאמֹ֔רle.MorH559, “Davidדָוִ֖דda.VidH1732cannotלֹֽא־lo'-H3808get inיָב֥וֹאya.Vo'H935hereהֵֽנָּה׃He.nahH2008.”

7Nevertheless, Davidדָּוִ֔דda.VidH1732אֵ֖ת'etH853capturedוַיִּלְכֹּ֣דvai.yil.KodH3920the fortressמְצֻדַ֣תme.tzu.DatH4686of Zionצִיּ֑וֹןtzi.YonH6726(that isהִ֖יאhi'H1931,the Cityעִ֥יר'irH5892of Davidדָּוִֽד׃da.VidH1732).

8On thatהַה֗וּא כָּל־ha.Hu' kol-H1931 H3605dayבַּיּ֣וֹםbai.YomH3117heדָּוִ֜דda.VidH1732saidוַיֹּ֨אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “Whoever attacksמַכֵּ֤הma.KehH5221the Jebusitesיְבֻסִי֙ye.vu.SiH2983must use the water shaftבַּצִּנּ֔וֹרba.tzi.NorH6794וְאֶת־ve.'EtH853to reachוְיִגַּ֣עve.yi.Ga'H5060the lameהַפִּסְחִים֙ha.pis.ChimH6455וְאֶת־ve.'EtH853and blindהַ֣עִוְרִ֔יםha.'iv.RimH5787who are despisedשְׂנֻאֵ֖י נֶ֣פֶשׁse.nov Ne.feshH8130 H5315by Davidדָּוִ֑דda.VidH1732.”That is whyעַל־ כֵּן֙'al- kenH5921 H3651it is saidיֹֽאמְר֔וּyo.me.RuH559, “The blindעִוֵּ֣ר'i.VerH5787and the lameוּפִסֵּ֔חַu.fi.Se.achH6455will neverלֹ֥אlo'H3808enterיָב֖וֹא אֶל־ya.Vo' 'el-H935 H413the palaceהַבָּֽיִת׃ha.Ba.yitH1004.”

9So Davidדָּוִד֙da.VidH1732took up residenceוַיֵּ֤שֶׁבvai.Ye.shevH3427in the fortressבַּמְּצֻדָ֔הba.me.tzu.DahH4686and calledוַיִּקְרָא־vai.yik.ra'-H7121itthe Cityעִ֣יר'irH5892of Davidדָּוִ֑דda.VidH1732.Heדָּוִד֙da.VidH1732built it upוַיִּ֤בֶןvai.Yi.venH1129all the way aroundסָבִ֔יבsa.VivH5439,fromמִן־min-H4480the supporting terracesהַמִּלּ֖וֹאha.mi.Lo'H4407inwardוָבָֽיְתָה׃va.Va.ye.tahH1004.

10And Davidדָּוִ֖דda.VidH1732becameוַיֵּ֥לֶךְvai.Ye.lekhH1980greaterהָל֣וֹךְha.LokhH1980and greaterוְגָד֑וֹלve.ga.DolH1431,for the LORDוַיהוָ֛הva.Yah.wehH3068Godאֱלֹהֵ֥י'e.lo.HeiH430of Hostsצְבָא֖וֹתtze.va.'otH6635was with himעִמּֽוֹ׃ פi.MoH5973.

11Now Hiramחִירָ֨םchi.RamH2438kingמֶֽלֶךְ־Me.lekh-H4428of Tyreצֹ֥רtzorH6865sentוַ֠יִּשְׁלַחVai.yish.lachH7971envoysמַלְאָכִים֮mal.'a.KhimH4397toאֶל־'el-H413Davidדָּוִד֒da.VidH1732,along with cedarאֲרָזִ֔ים'a.ra.ZimH730logsוַעֲצֵ֣יva.'a.TzeiH6086,carpentersוְחָרָשֵׁ֣י עֵ֔ץve.cha.ra.Shei 'EtzH2796 H6086,and stonemasonsוְחָֽרָשֵׁ֖י אֶ֣בֶן קִ֑ירve.cha.ra.Shei 'E.ven KirH2796 H68 H7023,and they builtוַיִּבְנֽוּ־vai.yiv.nu-H1129a palaceבַ֖יִתVa.yitH1004for Davidלְדָוִֽד׃le.da.VidH1732.

12And Davidדָּוִ֔דda.VidH1732realizedוַיֵּ֣דַעvai.Ye.da'H3045thatכִּֽי־ki-H3588the LORDיְהוָ֛הYah.wehH3068had established himהֱכִינ֧וֹhe.khi.NoH3559as kingלְמֶ֖לֶךְle.Me.lekhH4428overעַל־'al-H5921Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל וְכִי֙Yis.ra.'El ve.KhiH3478 H3588and had exaltedנִשֵּׂ֣אni.Se'H5375his kingdomמַמְלַכְתּ֔וֹmam.lakh.ToH4467for the sake ofבַּעֲב֖וּרba.'a.VurH5668His peopleעַמּ֥וֹa.MoH5971Israelיִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ סYis.ra.'ElH3478.

13Afterאַחֲרֵ֖י'a.cha.ReiH310he had arrivedבֹּא֣וֹbo.'OH935from Hebronמֵחֶבְר֑וֹןme.chev.RonH2275,Davidדָּוִ֨דda.VidH1732tookוַיִּקַּח֩vai.yi.KachH3947moreע֜וֹדodH5750concubinesפִּֽלַגְשִׁ֤יםpi.lag.ShimH6370and wivesוְנָשִׁים֙ve.na.ShimH802from Jerusalemמִיר֣וּשָׁלִַ֔םmi.Ru.sha.LimH3389,and moreע֛וֹדodH5750sonsבָּנִ֥יםba.NimH1121and daughtersוּבָנֽוֹת׃u.va.NotH1323were bornוַיִּוָּ֥לְדּוּvai.yi.Val.duH3205to himלְדָוִ֖דle.da.VidH1732.

14Theseוְאֵ֗לֶּהve.'E.lehH428are the namesשְׁמ֛וֹתshe.MotH8034of the children bornהַיִּלֹּדִ֥יםhai.yi.lo.DimH3209to himin Jerusalemבִּירוּשָׁלִָ֑םbi.ru.sha.LimH3389:Shammuaשַׁמּ֣וּעַsha.Mu.a'H8051,Shobabוְשׁוֹבָ֔בve.sho.VavH7727,Nathanוְנָתָ֖ןve.na.TanH5416,Solomonוּשְׁלֹמֹֽה׃u.she.lo.MohH8010,

15Ibharוְיִבְחָ֥רve.yiv.CharH2984,Elishuaוֶאֱלִישׁ֖וּעַve.'e.li.Shu.a'H474,Nephegוְנֶ֥פֶגve.Ne.fegH5298,Japhiaוְיָפִֽיעַ׃ve.ya.Fi.a'H3309,

16Elishamaוֶאֱלִישָׁמָ֥עve.'e.li.sha.Ma'H476,Eliadaוְאֶלְיָדָ֖עve.'el.ya.Da'H450,and Elipheletוֶאֱלִיפָֽלֶט׃ פve.'e.li.Fa.letH467.

17When the Philistinesפְלִשְׁתִּ֗יםfe.lish.TimH6430heardוַיִּשְׁמְע֣וּvai.yish.me.'UH8085thatכִּי־ki-H3588Davidדָּוִ֤דda.VidH1732had been anointedמָשְׁח֨וּma.she.ChuH4886אֶת־'et-H853kingלְמֶ֙לֶךְ֙le.Me.lekhH4428overעַל־'al-H5921Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֔לYis.ra.'ElH3478,theyפְּלִשְׁתִּ֖יםpe.lish.TimH6430allכָל־khol-H3605wentוַיַּעֲל֥וּvai.ya.'a.LuH5927in search ofלְבַקֵּ֣שׁle.va.KeshH1245אֶת־'et-H853himדָּוִ֑דda.VidH1732;butדָּוִ֔דda.VidH1732Davidlearnedוַיִּשְׁמַ֣עvai.yish.Ma'H8085of thisand went downוַיֵּ֖רֶדvai.Ye.redH3381toאֶל־'el-H413the strongholdהַמְּצוּדָֽה׃ha.me.tzu.DahH4686.

18Now the Philistinesוּפְלִשְׁתִּ֖יםu.fe.lish.TimH6430had comeבָּ֑אוּBa.'uH935and spread outוַיִּנָּטְשׁ֖וּvai.yi.na.te.ShuH5203in the Valleyבְּעֵ֥מֶקbe.'E.mekH6010of Rephaimרְפָאִֽים׃re.fa.'ImH7497.

19So Davidדָּוִ֤דda.VidH1732inquiredוַיִּשְׁאַ֨לvai.yish.'AlH7592of the LORDבַּֽיהוָה֙ba.Yah.wehH3068לֵאמֹ֔רle.MorH559, “Should I go upהַאֶֽעֱלֶה֙ha.'e.'e.LehH5927againstאֶל־'el-H413the Philistinesפְּלִשְׁתִּ֔יםpe.lish.TimH6430?Will You deliver themH5414into my handבְּיָדִ֑יbe.ya.DiH3027?” “Go upעֲלֵ֔ה'a.LehH5927,”repliedוַיֹּ֨אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559the LORDיְהוָ֤הYah.wehH3068אֶל־'el-H413דָּוִד֙da.VidH1732, “forכִּֽי־ki-H3588I will surely deliverH5414אֶת־'et-H853the Philistinesהַפְּלִשְׁתִּ֖יםha.pe.lish.TimH6430into your handבְּיָדֶֽךָ׃be.ya.De.khaH3027.”

20So Davidדָוִ֥דda.VidH1732wentוַיָּבֹ֨אvai.ya.Vo'H935to Baal-perazimH1188,where he defeatedוַיַּכֵּ֣ם שָׁ֣ם דָּוִד֒vai.ya.Kem sham da.VidH5221 H8033 H1732the Philistinesand saidוַיֹּ֕אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “Like a burstingכְּפֶ֣רֶץke.Fe.retzH6556floodמָ֑יִםMa.yimH4325,the LORDיְהוָ֧הYah.wehH3068אֶת־'et-H853has burst outפָּרַ֨ץpa.RatzH6555against my enemiesאֹיְבַ֛י'o.ye.VaiH341before meלְפָנַ֖יle.fa.NaiH6440.”Soעַל־ כֵּ֗ן'al- KenH5921 H3651he calledקָרָ֛א שֵֽׁם־ka.Ra' shem-H7121 H8034thatהַה֖וּאha.Hu'H1931placeהַמָּק֥וֹםha.ma.KomH1188 H4725Baal-perazimH1188.

21Thereשָׁ֖םshamH8033the Philistines abandonedוַיַּעַזְבוּ־vai.ya.'az.vu-H5800their idolsעֲצַבֵּיהֶ֑ם'a.tza.bei.HemH6091אֶת־'et-H853,and Davidדָּוִ֖דda.VidH1732and his menוַאֲנָשָֽׁיו׃ פva.'a.na.ShavH582carried them awayוַיִּשָּׂאֵ֥םvai.yi.sa.'EmH5375.

22Once againוַיֹּסִ֥פוּ ע֛וֹדvai.yo.Si.fu odH3254 H5750the Philistinesפְּלִשְׁתִּ֖יםpe.lish.TimH6430came upלַֽעֲל֑וֹתla.'a.LotH5927and spread outוַיִּנָּֽטְשׁ֖וּvai.yi.na.te.ShuH5203in the Valleyבְּעֵ֥מֶקbe.'E.mekH6010of Rephaimרְפָאִֽים׃re.fa.'ImH7497.

23So Davidדָּוִד֙da.VidH1732inquiredוַיִּשְׁאַ֤לvai.yish.'AlH7592of the LORDבַּֽיהוָ֔הba.Yah.wehH3068,who answeredוַיֹּ֖אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “Do notלֹ֣אlo'H3808march straight upתַעֲלֶ֑הta.'a.LehH5927,but circleהָסֵב֙ha.SevH5437aroundאֶל־'el-H413behind themאַ֣חֲרֵיהֶ֔ם'a.cha.rei.HemH310and attackוּבָ֥אתָu.Va.taH935themin frontמִמּ֥וּלmi.MulH4136of the balsam treesבְּכָאִֽים׃be.kha.'ImH1057.

24As soon asוִ֠יהִיVi.hiH1961you hearכְּֽשָׁמְעֲךָ֞ke.sha.me.'a.khaH8085אֶת־'et-H853the soundק֧וֹלKolH6963of marchingצְעָדָ֛הtze.'a.DahH6807in the topsבְּרָאשֵׁ֥יbe.ra.SheiH7218of the balsam treesהַבְּכָאִ֖יםha.be.kha.'ImH1057,move quicklyתֶּחֱרָ֑ץte.che.RatzH2782,becauseכִּ֣יkiH3588this will mean thatH227the LORDיְהוָה֙Yah.wehH3068has gone outיָצָ֤אya.Tza'H3318before youלְפָנֶ֔יךָle.fa.Nei.khaH6440to strikeלְהַכּ֖וֹתle.ha.KotH5221the campבְּמַחֲנֵ֥הbe.ma.cha.NehH4264of the Philistinesפְלִשְׁתִּֽים׃fe.lish.TimH6430.”
