Ezra 3
American Standard Version
1And when the seventhH7637 monthH2320 was come, and the children of IsraelH3478 were in the citiesH5892, the peopleH5971 gatheredH622 themselves together as oneH259 manH376 to JerusalemH3389. 2Then stoodH6965 up JeshuaH3442 the sonH1121 of Jozadak, and his brethren the priestsH3548, and ZerubbabelH2216 the sonH1121 of ShealtielH7597, and his brethren, and builded the altarH4196 of the GodH430 of IsraelH3478, to offerH5927 burnt-offerings thereon, as it is writtenH3789 in the lawH8451 of MosesH4872 the manH376 of GodH430. 3And they set the altarH4196 upon its base; for fear was upon them because of the peoplesH5971 of the countries: and they offeredH5927 burnt-offerings thereon unto Jehovah, even burnt-offerings morningH1242 and eveningH6153. 4And they kept the feastH2282 of tabernacles, as it is writtenH3789, and offered the daily burnt-offerings by numberH4557, according to the ordinanceH4941, as the duty of every dayH3117 required; 5and afterward the continual burnt-offering, and the offeringsH5071 of the newH2320 moonsH2320, and of all the setH6942 feastsH4150 of Jehovah that were consecratedH6942, and of every one that willingly offeredH5068 a freewill-offering unto Jehovah. 6From the first dayH3117 of the seventhH7637 monthH2320 beganH2490 they to offerH5927 burnt-offerings unto Jehovah: but the foundation of the templeH1964 of Jehovah was not yet laid. 7They gaveH5414 moneyH3701 also unto the masons, and to the carpenters; and foodH3978, and drinkH4960, and oilH8081, unto them of Sidon, and to them of Tyre, to bringH935 cedar-trees from LebanonH3844 to the seaH3220, unto JoppaH3305, according to the grant that they had of CyrusH3566 kingH4428 of PersiaH6539.
8Now in the secondH8145 yearH8141 of their comingH935 unto the houseH1004 of GodH430 at JerusalemH3389, in the secondH8145 monthH2320, beganH2490 ZerubbabelH2216 the sonH1121 of ShealtielH7597, and JeshuaH3442 the sonH1121 of Jozadak, and the restH7605 of their brethren the priestsH3548 and the LevitesH3881, and all they that were comeH935 out of the captivityH7628 unto JerusalemH3389, and appointedH5975 the LevitesH3881, from twentyH6242 yearsH8141 old and upwardH4605, to have the oversight of the workH4399 of the houseH1004 of Jehovah. 9Then stoodH5975 JeshuaH3442 with his sonsH1121 and his brethren, KadmielH6934 and his sonsH1121, the sonsH1121 of JudahH3063, together, to have the oversight of the workmen in the houseH1004 of GodH430: the sonsH1121 of HenadadH2582, with their sonsH1121 and their brethren the LevitesH3881. 10And when the buildersH1129 laid the foundation of the templeH1964 of Jehovah, they setH5975 the priestsH3548 in their apparel with trumpetsH2689, and the LevitesH3881 the sonsH1121 of AsaphH623 with cymbalsH4700, to praiseH1984 Jehovah, after the order of DavidH1732 kingH4428 of IsraelH3478. 11And they sang one to another in praisingH1984 and givingH3034 thanksH3034 unto Jehovah, saying, For he is goodH2896, for his lovingkindness endureth for everH5769 toward IsraelH3478. And all the peopleH5971 shoutedH7321 with a greatH1419 shoutH7321, when they praisedH1984 Jehovah, because the foundation of the houseH1004 of Jehovah was laid. 12But manyH7227 of the priestsH3548 and LevitesH3881 and headsH7218 of fathers’H1 housesH1004, the oldH2205 men that had seenH7200 the firstH7223 houseH1004, whenH834 the foundation of this houseH1004 was laid before their eyesH5869, weptH1058 with a loud voiceH6963; and manyH7227 shoutedH8643 aloud for joyH8057: 13so that the peopleH5971 could not discern the noise of the shoutH7321 of joyH8057 from the noise of the weepingH1065 of the peopleH5971; for the peopleH5971 shoutedH7321 with a loud shoutH7321, and the noise was heardH8085 afarH7350 off.
