Esther 7

American Standard Version

1So the kingH4428 and HamanH2001 cameH935 to banquet with EstherH635 the queenH4436. 2And the kingH4428 saidH559 again unto EstherH635 on the secondH8145 dayH3117 at the banquet of wineH3196, What is thy petitionH7596, queenH4436 EstherH635? and it shall be granted thee: and what is thy requestH1246? even to the halfH2677 of the kingdomH4438 it shall be performed. 3Then EstherH635 the queenH4436 answered and saidH559, If I have foundH4672 favorH2580 in thy sight, O kingH4428, and if it please the kingH4428, let my lifeH5315 be givenH5414 me at my petitionH7596, and my peopleH5971 at my requestH1246: 4for we are soldH4376, I and my peopleH5971, to be destroyedH8045, to be slainH2026, and to perishH6. But if we had been soldH4376 for bondmen and bondwomen, I had held my peace, although the adversary could not have compensated for the king’sH4428 damage. 5Then spake the kingH4428 AhasuerusH325 and saidH559 unto EstherH635 the queenH4436, Who is he, and whereH834 is he, that durst presume in his heartH3820 to do soH3651? 6And EstherH635 saidH559, An adversary and an enemyH341, even this wickedH7451 HamanH2001. Then HamanH2001 was afraid before the kingH4428 and the queenH4436. 7And the kingH4428 aroseH6965 in his wrathH2534 from the banquet of wineH3196 and went into the palaceH1055 gardenH1594: and HamanH2001 stoodH5975 up to make request for his lifeH5315 to EstherH635 the queenH4436; for he sawH7200 that there was evilH7451 determined against him by the kingH4428. 8Then the kingH4428 returnedH7725 out of the palace gardenH1594 into the place of the banquet of wineH3196; and HamanH2001 was fallenH5307 upon the couchH4296 whereon EstherH635 was. Then saidH559 the kingH4428, Will he even force the queenH4436 before me in the houseH1004? As the wordH1697 wentH3318 out of the king’sH4428 mouthH6310, they coveredH2645 Haman’s faceH6440. 9Then saidH559 Harbonah, oneH259 of the chamberlains that were before the kingH4428, Behold alsoH1571, the gallowsH6086 fiftyH2572 cubitsH520 highH1364, which HamanH2001 hath madeH6213 for MordecaiH4782, who spake goodH2896 for the kingH4428, standeth in the houseH1004 of HamanH2001. And the kingH4428 saidH559, HangH8518 him thereon. 10So they hangedH8518 HamanH2001 on the gallowsH6086 that he had preparedH3559 for MordecaiH4782. Then was the king’sH4428 wrathH2534 pacified.
