Esther 7
Revised Version 1895
1SoH935 the kingH4428 and HamanH2001 cameH935 to banquet with EstherH635 the queenH4436. 2And the kingH4428 saidH559 againH8145 unto EstherH635 on the secondH8145 dayH3117 at the banquetH4960 of wineH3196, WhatH4100 is thy petitionH7596, queenH4436 EstherH635? and it shall he grantedH5414 thee: and whatH4100 is thy requestH1246? evenH1571 to the halfH2677 of the kingdomH4438 it shall be performedH5414. 3Then EstherH635 the queenH4436 answeredH559 and saidH559, IfH518 I have foundH4672 favour in thy sightH5869, O kingH4428, and ifH518 it pleaseH2895 the kingH4428, letH5414 my lifeH5315 be givenH5414 meH5414 at my petitionH7596, and my peopleH5971 at my requestH1246: 4for weH3588 are soldH4376, I and my peopleH5971, to be destroyedH8045, to be slainH2026, and to perishH6. But ifH3588 weH3588 had been soldH4376 for bondmen and bondwomen, I had held my peace, althoughH3588 the adversary couldH5971 notH369 have compensated for the king’sH4428 damage. 5Then spake the kingH4428 AhasuerusH325 and saidH559 unto EstherH635 the queenH4436, Who is he, and whereH834 is he, that durst presume in his heartH3820 to doH6213 soH3651? 6And EstherH635 saidH559, An adversary and an enemyH341, even this wickedH7451 HamanH2001. Then HamanH2001 was afraid beforeH6440 the kingH4428 and the queenH4436. 7And the kingH4428 aroseH6965 in his wrathH2534 from the banquetH4960 of wineH3196 and wentH6965 intoH413 the palaceH1055 gardenH1594: and HamanH2001 stoodH5975 upH6965 to makeH7200 requestH1245 for his lifeH5315 to EstherH635 the queenH4436; for he sawH7200 that there was evilH7451 determinedH3615 againstH5921 him by the kingH4428. 8Then the kingH4428 returnedH7725 outH3318 of the palaceH1004 gardenH1594 intoH413 the placeH1004 of the banquetH4960 of wineH3196; and HamanH2001 was fallenH5307 uponH5921 the couchH4296 whereon EstherH635 was. Then saidH559 the kingH4428, Will he evenH1571 force the queenH4436 beforeH6440 meH413 in the houseH1004? As the wordH1697 wentH3318 outH3318 of the king’sH4428 mouthH6310, they coveredH2645 Haman’sH2001 faceH6440. 9Then saidH559 HarbonahH2726, one of the chamberlains that were beforeH6440 the kingH4428, BeholdH2009 also, the gallowsH6086 fiftyH2572 cubitsH520 highH1364, whichH834 HamanH2001 hath madeH6213 for MordecaiH4782, who spake goodH2896 for the kingH4428, standeth in the houseH1004 of HamanH2001. And the kingH4428 saidH559, HangH8518 him thereonH5921. 10SoH834 they hangedH8518 HamanH2001 on the gallowsH6086 that he had preparedH3559 for MordecaiH4782. Then was the king’sH4428 wrathH2534 pacified.
