Esther 6
American Standard Version
1On that nightH3915 could not the kingH4428 sleepH8142; and he commanded to bringH935 the bookH5612 of records of the chronicles, and they wereH1961 readH7121 before the kingH4428. 2And it was foundH4672 writtenH3789, that MordecaiH4782 had toldH5046 of Bigthana and TereshH8657, twoH8147 of the king’sH4428 chamberlains, of those that keptH8104 the threshold, who had soughtH1245 to lay handsH3027 on the kingH4428 AhasuerusH325. 3And the kingH4428 saidH559, What honorH3366 and dignity hath been bestowed on MordecaiH4782 for this? Then saidH559 the king’sH4428 servantsH5288 that ministered unto him, There is nothing done for him. 4And the kingH4428 saidH559, Who is in the courtH2691? Now HamanH2001 was comeH935 into the outward courtH2691 of the king’sH4428 houseH1004, to speak unto the kingH4428 to hangH8518 MordecaiH4782 on the gallowsH6086 that he had preparedH3559 for him. 5And the king’sH4428 servantsH5288 saidH559 unto him, Behold, HamanH2001 standeth in the courtH2691. And the kingH4428 saidH559, Let him comeH935 in. 6So HamanH2001 cameH935 in. And the kingH4428 saidH559 unto him, What shall be done unto the manH376 whom the kingH4428 delighteth to honorH3366? Now HamanH2001 saidH559 in his heartH3820, To whom would the kingH4428 delightH2654 to do honorH3366 moreH4480 than to myself? 7And HamanH2001 saidH559 unto the kingH4428, For the manH376 whom the kingH4428 delighteth to honorH3366, 8let royal apparel be broughtH935 which the kingH4428 useth to wearH3847, and the horseH5483 that the kingH4428 rideth upon, and on the headH7218 of which a crownH3804 royal is setH5414: 9and let the apparel and the horseH5483 be delivered to the handH3027 of oneH376 of the king’sH4428 most noble princesH8269, that they may array the manH376 therewith whom the kingH4428 delighteth to honorH3366, and cause him to rideH7392 on horseback through the street of the cityH5892, and proclaimH7121 before him, ThusH3602 shall it be done to the manH376 whom the kingH4428 delighteth to honorH3366.
10Then the kingH4428 saidH559 to HamanH2001, MakeH6213 hasteH4116, and takeH3947 the apparel and the horseH5483, as thou hast saidH559, and do even soH3651 to MordecaiH4782 the JewH3064, that sitteth at the king’sH4428 gateH8179: let nothing fail of all that thou hast spokenH1696. 11Then tookH3947 HamanH2001 the apparel and the horseH5483, and arrayed MordecaiH4782, and caused him to rideH7392 through the street of the cityH5892, and proclaimedH7121 before him, ThusH3602 shall it be done unto the manH376 whom the kingH4428 delighteth to honorH3366. 12And MordecaiH4782 came again to the king’sH4428 gateH8179. But HamanH2001 hasted to his houseH1004, mourningH57 and having his headH7218 coveredH2645. 13And HamanH2001 recountedH5608 unto ZereshH2238 his wifeH802 and all his friendsH157 everythingH3605 that had befallen him. Then saidH559 his wiseH2450 men and ZereshH2238 his wifeH802 unto him, If MordecaiH4782, before whom thou hast begunH2490 to fallH5307, be of the seedH2233 of the JewsH3064, thou shalt not prevailH3201 against him, but shalt surely fallH5307 before him. 14While they were yetH5750 talking with him, cameH935 the king’sH4428 chamberlains, and hasted to bringH935 HamanH2001 unto the banquet that EstherH635 had prepared.
