Daniel 5
1BelshazzarH1113 the kingH4430 made a greatH7229 feast to a thousandH506 of his lords, and drankH8355 wineH2562 before the thousandH506. 2BelshazzarH1113, while he tasted the wineH2562, commanded to bringH858 the golden and silverH3702 vesselsH3984 which NebuchadnezzarH5020 his fatherH2 had taken out of the templeH1965 which was in JerusalemH3390; that the kingH4430 and his lords, his wives and his concubines, might drinkH8355 therefrom. 3ThenH116 they broughtH858 the golden vesselsH3984 that were taken out of the temple of the houseH1005 of GodH426 which was at JerusalemH3390; and the kingH4430 and his lords, his wives and his concubines, drankH8355 from them. 4They drankH8355 wineH2562, and praised the godsH426 of goldH1722, and of silverH3702, of brass, of ironH6523, of wood, and of stoneH69.
5In the same hour came forth the fingers of a man’sH606 handH3028, and wrote over against the candlestick upon the plaster of the wall of the king’sH4430 palaceH1965: and the kingH4430 sawH2370 the part of the handH3028 that wrote. 6ThenH116 the king’sH4430 countenance was changedH8133 in him, and his thoughtsH7476 troubled him; and the joints of his loins were loosed, and his knees smote oneH1668 against another. 7The kingH4430 cried aloud to bringH5954 in the enchanters, the ChaldeansH3779, and the soothsayers. The kingH4430 spake and saidH560 to the wiseH2445 men of BabylonH895, Whosoever shall readH7123 this writing, and show me the interpretationH6591 thereof, shall be clothed with purple, and have a chain of goldH1722 about his neckH6676, and shall be the thirdH8523 rulerH7981 in the kingdomH4437. 8ThenH116 came in all the king’sH4430 wiseH2445 men; but they could not readH7123 the writing, nor makeH3046 knownH3046 to the kingH4430 the interpretationH6591. 9ThenH116 was kingH4430 BelshazzarH1113 greatly troubled, and his countenance was changedH8133 in him, and his lords were perplexed.
10Nowthe queenH4433 by reason of the wordsH4406 of the kingH4430 and his lords came into the banquet houseH1005: the queenH4433 spake and saidH560, O kingH4430, liveH2418 for everH5957; let not thy thoughtsH7476 trouble thee, nor let thy countenance be changedH8133. 11There is a manH1400 in thy kingdomH4437, in whom is the spiritH7308 of the holyH6922 godsH426; and in the daysH3118 of thy fatherH2 light and understanding and wisdomH2452, like the wisdomH2452 of the godsH426, were foundH7912 in him; and the kingH4430 NebuchadnezzarH5020 thy fatherH2, the kingH4430, I say, thy fatherH2, made him master of the magiciansH2749, enchanters, ChaldeansH3779, and soothsayers; 12forasmuch as an excellent spiritH7308, and knowledge, and understanding, interpreting of dreamsH2493, and showing of dark sentences, and dissolving of doubts, were foundH7912 in the same DanielH1841, whom the kingH4430 namedH8036 BelteshazzarH1096. NowH3705 let DanielH1841 be called, and he will show the interpretationH6591.
13ThenH116 was DanielH1841 broughtH858 in before the kingH4430. The kingH4430 spake and saidH560 unto DanielH1841, Art thou that DanielH1841, who art of the children of the captivity of JudahH3061, whom the kingH4430 my fatherH2 broughtH858 out of JudahH3061? 14I have heardH8086 of thee, that the spiritH7308 of the godsH426 is in thee, and that light and understanding and excellent wisdomH2452 are foundH7912 in thee. 15And nowH3705 the wiseH2445 men, the enchanters, have been broughtH5954 in before me, that they should readH7123 this writing, and makeH3046 knownH3046 unto me the interpretationH6591 thereof; but they could not show the interpretationH6591 of the thing. 16But I have heardH8086 of thee, that thou canst give interpretations, and dissolve doubts: nowH3705 if thou canst readH7123 the writing, and makeH3046 knownH3046 to me the interpretationH6591 thereof, thou shalt be clothed with purple, and have a chain of goldH1722 about thy neckH6676, and shalt be the thirdH8531 rulerH7981 in the kingdomH4437.
17ThenH116 DanielH1841 answered and saidH560 before the kingH4430, Let thy giftsH4978 be to thyself, and give thy rewards to another; nevertheless I will readH7123 the writing unto the kingH4430, and makeH3046 knownH3046 to him the interpretationH6591. 18O thou kingH4430, the MostH5943 HighH5943 GodH426 gave NebuchadnezzarH5020 thy fatherH2 the kingdomH4437, and greatnessH7238, and glory, and majestyH1923: 19and because of the greatnessH7238 that he gave him, all the peoplesH5972, nationsH524, and languages trembled and fearedH1763 before him: whom he would he slew, and whom he would he kept alive; and whom he would he raised up, and whom he would he put down. 20But when his heartH3825 was liftedH7313 up, and his spiritH7308 was hardened so that he dealt proudly, he was deposed from his kingly throneH3764, and they took his glory from him: 21and he was driven from the sons of menH606, and his heartH3825 was madeH3046 like the beasts’, and his dwellingH4070 was with the wild asses; he was fed with grass like oxen, and his bodyH1655 was wet with the dewH2920 of heavenH8065; until he knewH3046 that the MostH5943 HighH5943 GodH426 ruleth in the kingdomH4437 of menH606, and that he setteth up over it whomsoever he will. 22And thou his sonH1247, O BelshazzarH1113, hast not humbled thy heartH3825, though thou knewest all this, 23but hast liftedH7313 up thyself against the LordH4756 of heavenH8065; and they have broughtH858 the vesselsH3984 of his houseH1005 before thee, and thou and thy lords, thy wives and thy concubines, have drunk wineH2562 from them; and thou hast praised the godsH426 of silverH3702 and goldH1722, of brass, ironH6523, wood, and stoneH69, which seeH2370 not, nor hearH8086, nor knowH3046; and the GodH426 in whose handH3028 thy breath is, and whose are all thy waysH735, hast thou not glorified. 24ThenH116 was the part of the handH3028 sent from before him, and this writing was inscribed.
25And this is the writing that was inscribed: MENEH4484, MENEH4484, TEKEL, UPHARSIN. 26This is the interpretationH6591 of the thing: MENEH4484; GodH426 hath numbered thy kingdomH4437, and brought it to an end. 27TEKEL; thou art weighed in the balances, and art foundH7912 wanting. 28PERES; thy kingdomH4437 is divided, and given to the MedesH4076 and PersiansH6540.
29ThenH116 commanded BelshazzarH1113, and they clothed DanielH1841 with purple, and put a chain of goldH1722 about his neckH6676, and made proclamation concerningH5922 him, that he should be the thirdH8531 ruler in the kingdomH4437.
30In that nightH3916 BelshazzarH1113 the ChaldeanH3779 kingH4430 was slain. 31And Darius the Mede received the kingdom, being about threescore and two years old.
