2 Kings 19
Revised Version 1895
1And it cameH935 to passH935, when kingH4428 HezekiahH2396 heardH8085 it, that he rent his clothesH899, and coveredH3680 himself with sackclothH8242, and wentH935 intoH935 the houseH1004 of the LORDH3068. 2And he sentH7971 EliakimH471, whichH834 was over the householdH1004, and ShebnaH7644 the scribeH5608, and the eldersH2205 of the priestsH3548, coveredH3680 with sackclothH8242, unto IsaiahH3470 the prophetH5030, the sonH1121 of AmozH531. 3And they saidH559 unto him, ThusH3541 saith HezekiahH2396, This dayH3117 is a dayH3117 of troubleH6869, and of rebukeH8433, and of contumely: for the childrenH1121 are comeH935 to the birthH3205, and there is notH369 strengthH3581 to bringH935 forthH3205. 4It may be the LORDH3068 thy GodH430 will hearH8085 allH3605 the wordsH1697 of RabshakehH7262, whomH834 the kingH4428 of AssyriaH804 his masterH113 hath sentH7971 to reproachH2778 the livingH2416 GodH430, and will rebukeH3198 the wordsH1697 whichH834 the LORDH3068 thy GodH430 hath heardH8085: wherefore liftH5375 upH5375 thy prayerH8605 for the remnantH7611 that is leftH4672. 5SoH935 the servantsH5650 of kingH4428 HezekiahH2396 cameH935 to IsaiahH3470. 6And IsaiahH3470 saidH559 unto them, ThusH3541 shall ye sayH559 to your masterH113, ThusH3541 saith the LORDH3068, Be notH408 afraidH3372 of the wordsH1697 that thou hast heardH8085, wherewith the servantsH5288 of the kingH4428 of AssyriaH804 have blasphemedH1442 meH413. 7BeholdH2005, I will putH5414 a spiritH7307 in him, and he shall hearH8085 a rumour, and shall returnH7725 to his own landH776; and I will causeH5414 him to fallH5307 by the swordH2719 in his own landH776. 8SoH7725 RabshakehH7262 returnedH7725, and foundH4672 the kingH4428 of AssyriaH804 warring againstH5921 LibnahH3841: for he had heardH8085 that he was departedH5265 from LachishH3923. 9And when he heardH8085 sayH559 of TirhakahH8640 kingH4428 of EthiopiaH3568, BeholdH2009, he is comeH3318 outH3318 to fightH3898 againstH413 thee: he sentH7971 messengersH4397 againH7725 unto HezekiahH2396, sayingH559, 10ThusH3541 shall ye speakH559 to HezekiahH2396 kingH4428 of JudahH3063, sayingH559, LetH5414 notH3808 thy GodH430 in whomH834 thou trustest deceiveH5377 thee, sayingH559, JerusalemH3389 shall notH3808 be givenH5414 intoH413 the handH3027 of the kingH4428 of AssyriaH804. 11BeholdH2009, thou hast heardH8085 whatH834 the kingsH4428 of AssyriaH804 have doneH6213 to allH3605 landsH776, by destroying them utterly: and shalt thou be deliveredH5337? 12Have the godsH430 of the nationsH1471 deliveredH5337 them, whichH834 my fathersH1 have destroyedH7843, GozanH1470, and HaranH2771, and RezephH7530, and the childrenH1121 of Edom whichH834 were in TelassarH8515? 13WhereH335 is the kingH4428 of HamathH2574, and the kingH4428 of ArpadH774, and the kingH4428 of the cityH5892 of SepharvaimH5617, of HenaH2012, and IvvahH5755? 14And HezekiahH2396 receivedH3947 the letterH5612 from the handH3027 of the messengersH4397, and readH7121 it: and HezekiahH2396 wentH5927 upH5927 unto the houseH1004 of the LORDH3068, and spreadH6566 it beforeH6440 the LORDH3068. 15And HezekiahH2396 prayedH6419 beforeH6440 the LORDH3068, and saidH559, O LORDH3068, the GodH430 of IsraelH3478, that sittest uponH3427 the cherubimH3742, thou art the GodH430, evenH853 thou aloneH905, of allH3605 the kingdomsH4467 of the earthH776; thou hast madeH6213 heavenH8064 and earthH776. 16InclineH5186 thine earH241, O LORDH3068, and hearH8085; openH6491 thine eyesH5869, O LORDH3068, and seeH7200: and hearH8085 the wordsH1697 of SennacheribH5576, wherewith he hath sentH7971 him to reproachH2778 the livingH2416 GodH430. 17Of a truthH551, LORDH3068, the kingsH4428 of AssyriaH804 have laid waste the nationsH1471 and their landsH776, 18and have castH5414 their godsH430 intoH3027 the fireH784: for they were noH3808 godsH430, but the workH4639 of men’sH120 handsH3027, woodH6086 and stoneH68; therefore they have destroyedH6 them. 19NowH6258 therefore, O LORDH3068 our GodH430, saveH3467 thou usH4994, I beseechH4994 thee, outH3045 of his handH3027, that allH3605 the kingdomsH4467 of the earthH776 may knowH3045 that thou art the LORDH3068 GodH430, evenH3588 thou onlyH905. 20Then IsaiahH3470 the sonH1121 of AmozH531 sentH7971 to HezekiahH2396, sayingH559, ThusH3541 saith the LORDH3068, the GodH430 of IsraelH3478, Whereas thou hast prayedH6419 to meH413 againstH413 SennacheribH5576 kingH4428 of AssyriaH804, I have heardH8085 thee. 21This is the wordH1697 that the LORDH3068 hath spokenH1696 concerning him: The virginH1330 daughterH1323 of ZionH6726 hath despisedH959 thee and laughed thee to scorn; the daughterH1323 of JerusalemH3389 hath shakenH5128 herH5921 headH7218 at thee. 22WhomH4310 hast thou reproached and blasphemedH1442? and againstH5921 whomH4310 hast thou exaltedH7311 thy voiceH6963 and liftedH5375 upH5375 thine eyesH5869 on highH4791? evenH853 againstH5921 the HolyH6918 One of IsraelH3478. 23By thy messengersH4397 thou hast reproached the LordH136, and hast saidH559, With the multitude of my chariotsH7393 am I comeH935 upH5927 to the heightH6967 of the mountainsH2022, to the innermostH3411 partsH3411 of LebanonH3844; and I will cutH3772 downH3772 the tallH6967 cedarsH730 thereof, and the choiceH4005 firH1265 treesH1265 thereof: and I will enterH935 intoH935 his farthestH7093 lodgingH4411 placeH4411, the forestH3293 of his fruitfulH3759 fieldH3759. 24I have digged and drunkH8354 strangeH2114 watersH4325, and with the soleH3709 of my feetH6471 will I dryH2717 upH8354 allH3605 the riversH2975 of EgyptH4693. 25Hast thou notH3808 heardH8085 howH6213 I have doneH6213 it longH3117 agoH7350, and formedH3335 it of ancient timesH3117? nowH6258 have I broughtH935 it to passH935, that thou shouldest be to layH1961 waste fenced citiesH5892 intoH935 ruinous heapsH1530. 26Therefore their inhabitantsH3427 were of small powerH3027, they were dismayedH2865 and confoundedH954; they were as the grassH2682 of the fieldH7704, and as the greenH3419 herbH6212, as the grassH2682 on the housetopsH1406, and as corn blasted beforeH6440 it be grownH7054 upH1961. 27But I knowH3045 thy sittingH3427 downH3427, and thy goingH3318 outH3318, and thy comingH935 in, and thy ragingH7264 againstH413 meH413. 28BecauseH3282 of thy ragingH7264 againstH413 meH413, and for that thine arrogancy is comeH935 upH5927 intoH413 mine earsH241, therefore will I putH7760 my hookH2397 in thy noseH639, and my bridleH4964 in thy lipsH8193, and I will turnH7725 thee backH7725 by the wayH1870 by whichH834 thou camest. 29And this shall be the signH226 unto thee: ye shall eatH398 this yearH8141 that whichH2088 groweth of itselfH2088, and in the secondH8145 yearH8141 that whichH2088 springeth of the sameH2088; and in the thirdH7992 yearH8141 sowH2232 ye, and reapH7114, and plantH5193 vineyardsH3754, and eatH398 the fruitH6529 thereof. 30And the remnantH7604 that is escapedH6413 of the houseH1004 of JudahH3063 shall againH3254 takeH3254 rootH8328 downwardH4295, and bear fruitH6529 upwardH4605. 31For outH3318 of JerusalemH3389 shall goH3318 forthH3318 a remnantH7611, and outH3318 of mountH2022 ZionH6726 they that shall escapeH6413: the zealH7068 of the LORDH3068 shall performH6213 this. 32Therefore thusH3541 saith the LORDH3068 concerning the kingH4428 of AssyriaH804, He shall notH3808 comeH935 unto this cityH5892, norH3808 shootH3384 an arrowH2671 there, neitherH3808 shall he comeH935 beforeH413 it with shieldH4043, norH3808 castH8210 a mount againstH5921 it. 33By the wayH1870 that he cameH935, by the same shall he returnH7725, and he shall notH3808 comeH935 unto this cityH5892, saith the LORDH3068. 34For I will defendH1598 this cityH5892 to saveH3467 it, for mine own sakeH4616, and for my servantH5650 David’sH1732 sakeH4616. 35And it cameH1961 to passH1961 that nightH3915, that the angelH4397 of the LORDH3068 wentH3318 forthH3318, and smoteH5221 in the campH4264 of the Assyrians an hundredH3967 fourscore and fiveH2568 thousandH505: and when menH3605 aroseH7925 earlyH7925 in the morningH1242, beholdH2009, they were allH3605 deadH4191 corpsesH6297. 36SoH7725 SennacheribH5576 kingH4428 of AssyriaH804 departedH5265, and wentH7725 and returnedH7725, and dweltH3427 at NinevehH5210. 37And it cameH1961 to passH1961, as he was worshipping in the houseH1004 of NisrochH5268 his godH430, that AdrammelechH152 and SharezerH8272 smoteH5221 him with the swordH2719: and they escapedH4422 intoH776 the landH776 of AraratH780. And Esar-haddon his sonH1121 reignedH4427 in his steadH8478.
