2 Kings 6
Revised Version 1895
1And the sonsH1121 of the prophetsH5030 saidH559 unto ElishaH477, BeholdH2009 nowH4994, the placeH4725 whereH834 weH587 dwellH3427 beforeH6440 thee is tooH4480 strait for usH4994. 2LetH4994 usH4994 goH4994, weH5704 prayH4994 thee, unto JordanH3383, and takeH3947 thence everyH376 manH376 a beamH6982, and letH4994 usH4994 makeH6213 usH4994 a placeH4725 there, whereH8033 weH5704 may dwellH3427. And he answeredH559, GoH4994 ye. 3And one saidH559, Be content, I prayH4994 thee, and goH4994 with thy servantsH5650. And he answeredH559, I will goH4994. 4SoH935 he wentH935 with them. And when they cameH935 to JordanH3383, they cutH1504 downH1504 woodH6086. 5But as one was fellingH5307 a beamH6982, the axe-head fellH5307 intoH413 the waterH4325: and he criedH6817, and saidH559, AlasH162, my masterH113! for it was borrowedH7592. 6And the manH376 of GodH430 saidH559, WhereH8033 fellH5307 it? And he shewed him the placeH4725. And he cutH7094 downH5307 a stickH6086, and castH7993 it in thither, and madeH6086 the ironH1270 to swim. 7And he saidH559, TakeH3947 it upH7311 to thee. SoH3947 he putH7971 outH7971 his handH3027, and tookH3947 it. 8NowH1961 the kingH4428 of SyriaH758 warred againstH413 IsraelH3478; and he tookH1961 counselH3289 with his servantsH5650, sayingH559, In suchH492 and suchH492 a placeH4725 shall be my campH8466. 9And the manH376 of GodH430 sentH7971 unto the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478, sayingH559, BewareH8104 that thou passH5674 notH2088 suchH2088 a placeH4725; for thither the Syrians are comingH5185 downH7971. 10And the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478 sentH7971 to the placeH4725 whichH834 the manH376 of GodH430 toldH559 him and warnedH559 him of; and he saved himselfH413 there, notH3808 onceH259 norH3808 twiceH8147. 11And the heartH3820 of the kingH4428 of SyriaH758 was sore troubled for this thingH1697; and he calledH7121 his servantsH5650, and saidH559 unto them, Will ye notH3808 shew meH413 whichH7945 of usH413 is for the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478? 12And one of his servantsH5650 saidH559, Nay, my lordH113, O kingH4428: but ElishaH477, the prophetH5030 that is in IsraelH3478, telleth the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478 the wordsH1697 that thou speakest in thy bedchamber. 13And he saidH559, GoH7971 and seeH7200 whereH2009 he is, that I may sendH7971 and fetch him. And it was toldH5046 him, sayingH559, BeholdH2009, he is in DothanH1886. 14Therefore sentH7971 he thither horsesH5483, and chariotsH7393, and a greatH3515 host: and they cameH935 by nightH3915, and compassed the cityH5892 aboutH5921. 15And when the servantH5288 of the manH376 of GodH430 was risenH6965 earlyH7925, and goneH3318 forthH3318, beholdH2009, an host with horsesH5483 and chariotsH7393 was roundH5437 aboutH413 the cityH5892. And his servantH5288 saidH559 unto him, AlasH162, my masterH113! howH349 shall weH6213 doH6213? 16And he answeredH559, FearH3372 notH408: for they that be with usH3588 are moreH3588 thanH7227 they that be with them. 17And ElishaH477 prayedH6419, and saidH559, LORDH3068, I prayH6419 thee, openH6491 his eyesH5869, that he may seeH7200. And the LORDH3068 openedH6491 the eyesH5869 of the youngH5288 manH5288; and he sawH7200: and, beholdH2009, the mountainH2022 was fullH4390 of horsesH5483 and chariotsH7393 of fireH784 roundH5439 aboutH5439 ElishaH477. 18And when they cameH3381 downH3381 to him, ElishaH477 prayedH6419 unto the LORDH3068, and saidH559, SmiteH5221 this peopleH1471, I prayH6419 thee, with blindnessH5575. And he smoteH5221 them with blindnessH5575 accordingH413 to the wordH1697 of ElishaH477. 19And ElishaH477 saidH559 unto them, This is notH3808 the wayH1870, neitherH3808 is this the cityH5892: followH310 meH413, and I will bring youH834 to the manH376 whomH834 ye seekH1245. And he led them to SamariaH8111. 20And it cameH935 to passH935, when they were comeH935 intoH935 SamariaH8111, that ElishaH477 saidH559, LORDH3068, openH6491 the eyesH5869 of theseH428 menH428, that they may seeH7200. And the LORDH3068 openedH6491 their eyesH5869, and they sawH7200; and, beholdH2009, they were in the midstH8432 of SamariaH8111. 21And the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478 saidH559 unto ElishaH477, when he sawH7200 them, My fatherH1; shall I smiteH5221 them? shall I smiteH5221 them? 22And he answeredH559, Thou shalt notH3808 smiteH5221 them: wouldest thou smiteH5221 thoseH834 whomH834 thou hast takenH7617 captiveH7617 with thy swordH2719 and with thy bowH7198? setH7760 breadH3899 and waterH4325 beforeH6440 them, that they may eatH398 and drinkH8354, and go to their masterH113. 23And he prepared greatH1419 provision for them: and when they had eatenH398 and drunkH8354, he sentH7971 them awayH7971, and they wentH935 to their masterH113. And the bandsH1416 of SyriaH758 cameH935 noH3808 moreH5750 intoH413 the landH776 of IsraelH3478. 24And it cameH1961 to passH1961 afterH310 this, that Ben-hadadH1130 kingH4428 of SyriaH758 gatheredH6908 allH3605 his hostH4264, and wentH5927 upH5927, and besieged SamariaH8111. 25And there was a greatH1419 famineH7458 in SamariaH8111: and, beholdH2009, they besieged it, untilH5704 an ass’s headH7218 was soldH1961 for fourscore pieces of silverH3701, and the fourthH7255 partH5921 of a kabH6894 of dove’s dung for fiveH2568 pieces of silverH3701. 26And as the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478 was passingH5674 by uponH5921 the wallH2346, there criedH6817 a womanH802 unto him, sayingH559, HelpH3467, my lordH113, O kingH4428. 27And he saidH559, IfH176 the LORDH3068 doH408 notH408 helpH3467 thee, whence shall I helpH3467 thee? outH4480 of the threshing-floor, or outH4480 of the winepressH3342? 28And the kingH4428 saidH559 unto herH413, WhatH4100 aileth thee? And sheH4100 answeredH559, This womanH802 saidH559 unto meH413, GiveH5414 thy sonH1121, that weH3117 may eatH398 him todayH3117, and weH3117 will eatH398 my sonH1121 tomorrowH4279. 29SoH5414 weH3117 boiledH1310 my sonH1121, and didH3117 eatH398 him: and I saidH559 unto herH413 on the nextH312 dayH3117, GiveH5414 thy sonH1121, that weH3117 may eatH398 him: and she hath hidH2244 herH413 sonH1121. 30And it cameH1961 to passH5674, when the kingH4428 heardH8085 the wordsH1697 of the womanH802, that he rent his clothesH899; (nowH1961 he was passingH5674 by uponH5921 the wallH2346;) and the peopleH5971 lookedH7200, and, beholdH2009, he had sackclothH8242 withinH5921 uponH5921 his fleshH1320. 31Then he saidH559, GodH430 doH6213 soH6213 to meH5921, and moreH3254 also, ifH518 the headH7218 of ElishaH477 the sonH1121 of ShaphatH8202 shall standH5975 on him this dayH3117. 32But ElishaH477 satH3427 in his houseH1004; and the eldersH2205 satH3427 with him; and the king sentH7971 a manH376 from beforeH6440 him: but ere the messengerH4397 cameH935 to him, he saidH559 to the eldersH2205, SeeH7200 ye howH3588 this sonH1121 of a murdererH7523 hath sentH7971 to takeH5493 awayH5493 mine headH7218? lookH7200, when the messengerH4397 cometh, shutH5462 the doorH1817, and holdH3905 the doorH1817 fast againstH413 him: is notH3808 the soundH6963 of his master’sH113 feetH7272 behindH310 him.? 33And whileH5750 he yet talkedH1696 with them, beholdH2009, the messengerH4397 cameH3381 downH3381 unto him: and he saidH559, BeholdH2009, this evilH7451 is of the LORDH3068; whyH4100 should I waitH3176 for the LORDH3068 anyH5750 longerH5750?
