Ruth Gleans in Boaz’s Field

1Now NaomiH5281 had 1a relativeH4129 of her husbandH376, a 2manH376 of greatH1368 wealthH2428, of the familyH4940 of 3ElimelechH458, whose nameH8034 was BoazH1162. 2And RuthH7327 the MoabitessH4125 saidH559 to NaomiH5281, “PleaseH4994 let me goH1980 to the fieldH7704 and 4gleanH3950 among the earsH7641 ofH7641 grainH7641 followingH310 one in whoseH834 eyesH5869 I may findH4672 favorH2580.” And she saidH559 to her, “GoH1980, my daughterH1323.” 3So she leftH1980 and wentH935 and gleanedH3950 in the fieldH7704 afterH310 the reapersH7114; and 5she happenedH7136H4745 toH7136 comeH7136 to the portionH2513 of the fieldH7704 belonging to BoazH1162, whoH834 was of the familyH4940 of ElimelechH458. 4Now beholdH2009, BoazH1162 cameH935 from BethlehemH1035 and saidH559 to the reapersH7114, “6May the LordH3068 be with you.” And they saidH559 to him, “May the LordH3068 blessH1288 you.” 5Then BoazH1162 saidH559 to his servantH5288 who wasH5324 7inH5324H5921 chargeH5324H5921 of the reapersH7114, “WhoseH4310 youngH5291 womanH5291 is thisH2088?” 6And the servantH5288 8inH5324H5921 chargeH5324H5921 of the reapersH7114 repliedH6030, “She is the youngH5291 MoabiteH4125 womanH5291 who returnedH7725 with NaomiH5281 from the landH7704 of MoabH4124. 7And she saidH559, ‘PleaseH4994 let me gleanH3950 and gatherH622 afterH310 the reapersH7114 among the sheavesH6016.’ So she cameH935 and has remainedH5975 from the morningH1242 untilH5704 nowH6258; she has been sittingH3427 in the houseH1004 for a littleH4592 whileH4592.”

8Then BoazH1162 saidH559 to RuthH7327, “9ListenH8085 carefullyH3808, my daughterH1323. Do not goH1980 to gleanH3950 in anotherH312 fieldH7704; furthermoreH1571, do not goH5674 onH5674 from thisH2088 oneH2088, but joinH1692H5973 my youngH5291 womenH5291 hereH3541. 9Keep your eyesH5869 on the fieldH7704 whichH834 they reapH7114, and goH1980 afterH310 them. IndeedH3808, I have orderedH6680 the servantsH5288 not to touchH5060 you. When you areH6770 thirstyH6770, goH1980 to the 10waterH3627 jarsH3627 and drinkH8354 from whatH834 the servantsH5288 drawH7579.” 10Then she 11fellH5307 on her faceH6440, bowingH2331 to the groundH776, and saidH559 to him, “WhyH4069 have I foundH4672 favorH2580 in your sightH5869 that you should takeH5234 noticeH5234 of me, since I am a foreignerH5237?” 11BoazH1162 repliedH6030 to her, “AllH3605 that you have doneH6213 for your mother-in-lawH2545 afterH310 the deathH4194 of your husbandH376 has been fullyH5046 reportedH5046 to me, and how you leftH5800 your fatherH1 and your motherH517 and the landH776 of your birthH4138, and cameH1980 to a peopleH5971 that you did not previouslyH8543H8032 knowH3045. 1212May the LordH3068 rewardH7999 your 13workH6467, and may your wagesH4909 be fullH8003 from the LordH3068, the GodH430 of IsraelH3478, 14underH8478 whoseH834 wingsH3671 you have comeH935 to takeH2620 refugeH2620.” 13Then she saidH559, “I have foundH4672 favorH2580 in your sightH5869, my lordH113, for you have comfortedH5162 me and indeedH3588 have spokenH1696 15kindlyH3820 to your servantH8198, though I amH1961 not like oneH259 of your femaleH8198 servantsH8198.”

14And at mealtimeH6256H400 BoazH1162 saidH559 to her, “16ComeH5066 hereH1988, that you may eatH398 of the breadH3899 and dipH2881 your pieceH6595 ofH6595 breadH6595 in the vinegarH2558.” So she satH3427 besideH4480H6654 the reapersH7114; and he servedH6642 her roastedH7039 grainH7039, and she ateH398 and wasH7646 satisfiedH7646 17and hadH3498 some leftH3498. 15When she gotH6965 upH6965 to gleanH3950, BoazH1162 commandedH6680 his servantsH5288, sayingH559, “Let her gleanH3950 evenH1571 amongH996 the sheavesH6016, and do not 18insultH3637 her. 16AlsoH1571 you are to purposelyH7997 slipH7997 outH7997 for her some grain from the bundlesH6653 and leaveH5800 it so that she may gleanH3950, and do not rebukeH1605 her.”

17So she gleanedH3950 in the fieldH7704 untilH5704 eveningH6153. Then she beatH2251 outH2251 whatH834 she had gleanedH3950, and it was about an 19ephahH374 of barleyH8184. 18And she pickedH5375 it upH5375 and wentH935 into the cityH5892, and her mother-in-lawH2545 sawH7200 whatH834 she had gleanedH3950. She also tookH3318 some outH3318 and 20gaveH5414 21Naomi whatH834 she hadH3498 leftH3498 afterH4480 22she was satisfiedH7648. 19Her mother-in-lawH2545 then saidH559 to her, “WhereH375 did you gleanH3950 todayH3117 and whereH575 did you workH6213? May he who 23tookH5234 noticeH5234 of you be blessedH1288.” So she toldH5046 her mother-in-lawH2545 with whomH834 she had workedH6213, and saidH559, “The nameH8034 of the manH376 with whomH834 I workedH6213 todayH3117 is BoazH1162.” 20NaomiH5281 saidH559 to her daughter-in-lawH3618, “24May he be blessedH1288 of the LordH3068 whoH834 has not withdrawnH5800 His kindnessH2617 from the livingH2416 and from the deadH4191.” Again NaomiH5281 saidH559 to her, “The manH376 is our relativeH7138; he is one of our 25redeemersH1350.” 21Then RuthH7327 the MoabitessH4125 saidH559, “26FurthermoreH1571, he saidH559 to me, ‘You are to stayH1692 closeH1692 to my servantsH5288 untilH5704H518 they have finishedH3615 allH3605 my harvestH7105.’” 22And NaomiH5281 saidH559 to her daughter-in-lawH3618 RuthH7327, “It is goodH2896, my daughterH1323, that you goH3318 outH3318 with his youngH5291 womenH5291, so that others do not assaultH6293 you in anotherH312 fieldH7704.” 23So she stayedH1692 closeH1692 by the youngH5291 womenH5291 of BoazH1162 in order to gleanH3950 untilH5704 27the endH3615 of the barleyH8184 harvestH7105 and the wheatH2406 harvestH7105. And she livedH3427 with her mother-in-lawH2545.
