2 Samuel 5:4-25
4DavidH1732 was 1thirtyH7970 yearsH8141 oldH1121 when he becameH4427 kingH4427, and 2he reignedH4427 for fortyH705 yearsH8141. 5At HebronH2275 3he reignedH4427 overH5921 JudahH3063 for sevenH7651 yearsH8141 and sixH8337 monthsH2320, and in JerusalemH3389 he reignedH4427 for thirty-threeH7970H7969 yearsH8141 overH5921 allH3605 IsraelH3478 and JudahH3063.
64Now the kingH4428 and his menH376 wentH1980 to 5JerusalemH3389 againstH413 the JebusitesH2983, the inhabitantsH3427 of the landH776; and they saidH559 to 6DavidH1732, “You shall not comeH935 inH935 hereH2008, but even those who are blindH5787 and those who limpH6455 will turnH5493 you awayH5493,” 7thinkingH559, “DavidH1732 cannotH3808 enterH935 hereH2008.” 7Nevertheless, DavidH1732 capturedH3920 the strongholdH4686 of ZionH6726, that is, 8the cityH5892 of DavidH1732. 8And DavidH1732 saidH559 on that dayH3117, “WhoeverH3605 strikesH5221 the JebusitesH2983 is to reachH5060 those who limpH6455 and those who are blindH5787, who are hatedH8130 by David’sH1732 soulH5315, through the waterH6794 tunnelH6794.” For thatH3651 reasonH3651 they sayH559, “PeopleH5787 who are blindH5787 and peopleH6455 who limpH6455 shall not comeH935 into the houseH1004.” 9So DavidH1732 livedH3427 in the strongholdH4686, and calledH7121 it 9the cityH5892 of DavidH1732. And DavidH1732 builtH1129 allH5439 aroundH5439 from the 1011MilloH4407 and inwardH1004. 1012DavidH1732 becameH1980 greaterH1980 and greaterH1419, for the LordH3068 GodH430 of armiesH6635 was with him.
1113Then HiramH2438 kingH4428 of TyreH6865 sentH7971 messengersH4397 to DavidH1732 with cedarH730 treesH6086, carpentersH2796H6086, and 14stonemasonsH2796H68; and 15they builtH1129 a houseH1004 for DavidH1732. 12And DavidH1732 realizedH3045 that the LordH3068 had appointedH3559 him as kingH4428 overH5921 IsraelH3478, and that He had exaltedH5375 his kingdomH4467 for the sakeH5668 of His peopleH5971 IsraelH3478.
13Meanwhile 16DavidH1732 tookH3947 moreH5750 concubinesH6370 and wivesH802 from JerusalemH3389, afterH310 he cameH935 from HebronH2275; and moreH5750 sonsH1121 and daughtersH1323 were bornH3205 to DavidH1732. 14Now 17theseH428 are the namesH8034 of those who were bornH3209 to him in JerusalemH3389: ShammuaH8051, ShobabH7727, NathanH5416, SolomonH8010, 15IbharH2984, ElishuaH474, NephegH5298, JaphiaH3309, 16ElishamaH476, EliadaH450, and ElipheletH467.
17Now when the PhilistinesH6430 heardH8085 that they had anointedH4886 DavidH1732 kingH4428 overH5921 IsraelH3478, 18allH3605 the PhilistinesH6430 wentH5927 upH5927 to seekH1245 outH1245 DavidH1732; and when DavidH1732 heardH8085 about it, he wentH3381 downH3381 to the 19strongholdH4686. 18Now the PhilistinesH6430 cameH935 and overranH5203 20the ValleyH6010 of RephaimH7497. 19So 21DavidH1732 inquiredH7592 of the LordH3068, sayingH559, “Shall I goH5927 upH5927 againstH413 the PhilistinesH6430? Will You handH5414H3027 them overH5414 to me?” And 22the LordH3068 saidH559 to DavidH1732, “GoH5927 upH5927, for I will certainlyH5414 handH5414H3027 the PhilistinesH6430 overH5414 to you.” 20Then DavidH1732 cameH935 to 23Baal-perazimH1188 and 24defeatedH5221 them thereH8033; and he saidH559, “The LordH3068 has brokenH6555 throughH6555 my enemiesH340 beforeH6440 me like the breakthroughH6556 of watersH4325.” ThereforeH5921H3651 he namedH7121H8034 that placeH4725 25Baal-perazimH1188. 21And the Philistines abandonedH5800 their idolsH6091 thereH8033, so 26DavidH1732 and his menH376 carriedH5375 them away.
22Now 27the PhilistinesH6430 cameH5927 upH5927 onceH3254H5750 againH3254 and overranH5203 the ValleyH6010 of RephaimH7497. 23So 28DavidH1732 inquiredH7592 of the LordH3068, but He saidH559, “You shall not goH5927 directly upH5927; circleH5437 aroundH5437 behindH310 them and comeH935 at them in frontH4136 of the baka-shrubsH1057. 24And it shall be, when 29you hearH8085 the soundH6963 of marchingH6807 in the topsH7218 of the baka-shrubsH1057, thenH227 you shall 30actH2782 promptlyH2782, for thenH227 31the LordH3068 will have goneH3318 outH3318 beforeH6440 you to strikeH5221 the armyH4264 of the PhilistinesH6430.” 25Then DavidH1732 didH6213 soH3651, justH3512 asH3512 the LordH3068 had commandedH6680 him; he struckH5221 andH5221 killedH5221 the PhilistinesH6430 from 3233GebaH1387 34as farH5704 as 35GezerH1507.
