Peril in Transporting the Ark
1Then DavidH1732 consultedH3289 with the captainsH8269 of the thousandsH505 and the hundredsH3967, with everyH3605 leaderH5057. 2DavidH1732 saidH559 to allH3605 the assemblyH6951 of IsraelH3478, “IfH518 it seems goodH2895 to you, and if it is from the LordH3068 our GodH430, 1let us sendH7971 word everywhereH6555 to our kinsmenH251 who remainH7604 in allH3605 the landH776 of IsraelH3478, and to the priestsH3548 and LevitesH3881 who are with them in their citiesH5892 with pastureH4054 landsH4054, that they meetH6908 with us; 3and 2let us bringH5437 backH5437 the arkH727 of our GodH430 to us, 3sinceH3588 we did not seekH1875 it in the daysH3117 of SaulH7586.” 4Then allH3605 the assemblyH6951 saidH559 that they would doH6213 soH3651, for 4thisH1697 wasH3474 rightH3474 in the eyesH5869 of allH3605 the peopleH5971.
55So DavidH1732 assembledH6950 allH3605 IsraelH3478 together, from the ShihorH7883 of EgyptH4714 to the entranceH935 of HamathH2574, 6to bringH935 the arkH727 of GodH430 from Kiriath-jearimH7157. 67DavidH1732 and allH3605 IsraelH3478 wentH5927 upH5927 to 8BaalahH1173, that is, to Kiriath-jearimH7157, whichH834 belongs to JudahH3063, to bringH5927 upH5927 from thereH8033 the arkH727 of GodH430, the LordH3068 9who is enthronedH3427 above the cherubimH3742, whereH834 His nameH8034 is calledH7121. 7And they 10carriedH7392 the arkH727 of GodH430 on a newH2319 cartH5699 from 11the houseH1004 of AbinadabH41, and UzzaH5798 and AhioH283 droveH5090 the cartH5699. 8DavidH1732 and allH3605 IsraelH3478 were celebratingH7832 beforeH6440 GodH430 with allH3605 their mightH5797, 12with songsH7892 and with lyresH3658, harpsH5035, tambourinesH8596, cymbalsH4700, and trumpetsH2689.
9When they cameH935 to 13the threshingH1637 floorH1637 of ChidonH3592, UzzaH5798 putH7971 outH7971 his handH3027 to holdH270 the arkH727, becauseH3588 the oxenH1241 nearly overturnedH8058 it. 10But the angerH639 of the LordH3068 burnedH2734 against UzzaH5798, so He struckH5221 him 14becauseH5921H834 he had putH7971 outH7971 his handH3027 towardH5921 the arkH727; 15and he diedH4191 thereH8033 beforeH6440 GodH430. 11Then DavidH1732 becameH2734 angryH2734 becauseH3588 16of the Lord’sH3068 outburstH6555H6556 against UzzaH5798; and he calledH7121 that placeH4725 17Perez-uzzaH6560 as it is to thisH2088 dayH3117. 12DavidH1732 wasH3372 afraidH3372 of GodH430 that dayH3117, sayingH559, “HowH1963 can I bringH935 the arkH727 of GodH430 home to me?” 13So DavidH1732 did not takeH5493 the arkH727 with him to the cityH5892 of DavidH1732, but tookH5186 it asideH5186 18to the houseH1004 of Obed-edomH5654 the GittiteH1663. 14And the arkH727 of GodH430 remainedH3427 with the familyH1004 of Obed-edomH5654 in his houseH1004 for threeH7969 monthsH2320; and 19the LordH3068 blessedH1288 the familyH1004 of Obed-edomH5654 and allH3605 that he had.
