Romans 4:16-22

16For this reason it is 1by faith, in order that it may be in accordance with 2grace, so that the promise will be guaranteed to 3all the 4descendants, not only to 5those who are of the Law, but also to 67those who are of the faith of Abraham, who is 8the father of us all,

17(as it is written: “I have made you 9a father of many nations”) in the presence of Him whom he believed, that is, God, 10who gives life to the dead and 11calls into being 12things that do not exist.

18In hope against hope he believed, so that he might become 13a father of many nations according to that which had been spoken, “14So shall your 15descendants be.”

19Without becoming weak in faith he contemplated his own body, now 16as good as dead since 17he was about a hundred years old, and 18the deadness of Sarah’s womb;

20yet, with respect to the promise of God, he did not waver in unbelief but grew strong in faith, 19giving glory to God,

21and 20being fully assured that 21what God had promised, He was able also to perform.

22Therefore 22it was also credited to him as righteousness.
