Esther’s Plea

1Now the kingהַמֶּ֙לֶךְ֙ha.Me.lekhH4428and Hamanוְהָמָ֔ןve.ha.ManH2001cameוַיָּבֹ֤אvai.ya.Vo'H935to drinkלִשְׁתּ֖וֹתlish.TotH8354winewith Estherאֶסְתֵּ֥ר'es.TerH635the queenהַמַּלְכָּֽה׃ha.mal.KahH4436.

2And the kingהַמֶּ֨לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428saidוַיֹּאמֶר֩vai.yo.MerH559to Estherלְאֶסְתֵּ֜רle.'es.TerH635on the secondהַשֵּׁנִי֙ha.she.NiH8145dayבַּיּ֤וֹםbai.YomH3117alsoגַּ֣םgamH1571as they drankH4960their wineהַיַּ֔יִןhai.Ya.yinH3196atH4960theH4960banquetH4960, “Whatמַה־mah-H4100is your requestשְּׁאֵלָתֵ֛ךְshe.'e.la.TekhH7596,Queenהַמַּלְכָּ֖הha.mal.KahH4436Estherאֶסְתֵּ֥ר'es.TerH635?It shall be grantedוְתִנָּ֣תֵֽןve.ti.Na.tenH5414you. And whatוּמַה־u.mah-H4100is your wishבַּקָּשָׁתֵ֛ךְba.ka.sha.TekhH1246?Up to halfחֲצִ֥יcha.TziH2677of the kingdomהַמַּלְכ֖וּתha.mal.KhutH4438it shall be doneוְתֵעָֽשׂ׃ve.te.'AsH6213.”

3Then Queenהַמַּלְכָּה֙ha.mal.KahH4436Estherאֶסְתֵּ֤ר'es.TerH635repliedוַתַּ֨עַןva.Ta.'anH6030, “Ifאִם־'im-H518I have foundמָצָ֨אתִיma.Tza.tiH4672favorחֵ֤ןchenH2580in your sightבְּעֵינֶ֙יךָ֙be.'ei.Nei.khaH5869,O kingהַמֶּ֔לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428,and ifוְאִם־ve.'im-H518it pleasesH2895the kingהַמֶּ֖לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428,let my lifeנַפְשִׁי֙naf.ShiH5315be givenתִּנָּֽתֶן־ti.na.ten-H5414me as my requestבִּשְׁאֵ֣לָתִ֔יbish.'E.la.TiH7596,and my peopleוְעַמִּ֖יve.'a.MiH5971as my wishבְּבַקָּשָׁתִֽי׃be.va.ka.sha.TiH1246;

4forwe have been soldנִמְכַּ֙רְנוּ֙nim.Kar.nuH4376,I and my peopleוְעַמִּ֔יve.'a.MiH5971,to be destroyedלְהַשְׁמִ֖ידle.hash.MidH8045,killedלַהֲר֣וֹגla.ha.RogH2026,and eliminatedוּלְאַבֵּ֑דu.le.'a.BedH6.Now ifוְ֠אִלּוּVe.'i.luH432we had only been soldנִמְכַּ֙רְנוּ֙nim.Kar.nuH4376as slavesH8198 H5650,menH5650and womenH8198,I would have keptH2790silentH2790,becauseH3588the distressהַצָּ֛רha.TzarH6862would not be sufficientשֹׁוֶ֖הsho.VehH7737reasonto burdenבְּנֵ֥זֶקbe.Ne.zekH5143the kingהַמֶּֽלֶךְ׃ סha.Me.lekhH4428.”

5Then Kingהַמֶּ֣לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428Ahasuerusאֲחַשְׁוֵר֔וֹשׁ'a.chash.ve.Ro.oshH325askedH559Queenהַמַּלְכָּ֑הha.mal.KahH4436Estherלְאֶסְתֵּ֣רle.'es.TerH635, “Whoמִ֣יmiH4310is he, and whereוְאֵֽי־ve.'ei-H335is he,whoאֲשֶׁר־'a.Sher-H834would presumeמְלָא֥וֹ לִבּ֖וֹme.la.'O li.BoH4390 H3820to doלַעֲשׂ֥וֹתla.'a.SotH6213suchכֵּֽן׃KenH3651a thing?”

6And Estherאֶסְתֵּ֔ר'es.TerH635saidוַתֹּ֣אמֶר־va.To.mer-H559, “A foeצַ֣רtzarH6862and an enemyH340is thisהַזֶּ֑הha.ZehH2088wickedהָרָ֖עha.Ra'H7451Hamanהָמָ֥ןha.ManH2001!”Then Hamanוְהָמָ֣ןve.ha.ManH2001became terrifiedנִבְעַ֔תniv.'AtH1204beforeמִלִּפְנֵ֥יmi.lif.NeiH4480 H6440the kingהַמֶּ֖לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428and queenוְהַמַּלְכָּֽה׃ve.ha.mal.KahH4436.

Haman Is Hanged

7The kingוְהַמֶּ֜לֶךְve.ha.Me.lekhH4428then gotH6965upH6965in his angerבַּחֲמָתוֹ֙ba.cha.ma.ToH2534fromdrinkingמִמִּשְׁתֵּ֣הmi.mish.TehH4960wineהַיַּ֔יִןhai.Ya.yinH3196and went intothe palaceהַבִּיתָ֑ןha.bi.TanH1055gardenH1593;but Hamanוְהָמָ֣ןve.ha.ManH2001stayedעָמַ֗ד'a.MadH5975to begלְבַקֵּ֤שׁle.va.KeshH1245for his lifeנַפְשׁוֹ֙naf.ShoH5315from Queenהַמַּלְכָּ֔הha.mal.KahH4436Estherמֵֽאֶסְתֵּ֣רme.'es.TerH635,for he sawרָאָ֔הra.'AhH7200that harmH7463had been determinedכָלְתָ֥הkhal.TahH3615againstH413him by the kingהַמֶּֽלֶךְ׃ha.Me.lekhH4428.

8Now when the kingוְהַמֶּ֡לֶךְve.ha.Me.lekhH4428returnedשָׁב֩shavH7725from the palaceהַבִּיתָ֜ןha.bi.TanH1055gardenH1593into theplaceבֵּ֣ית׀beitH1004where they had been drinkingמִשְׁתֵּ֣הmish.TehH4960wineהַיַּ֗יִןhai.Ya.yinH3196,Hamanוְהָמָן֙ve.ha.ManH2001was fallingנֹפֵ֔לno.FelH5307onthe couchהַמִּטָּה֙ha.mi.TahH4296whereאֲשֶׁ֣ר'a.SherH834 H5921Estherאֶסְתֵּ֣ר'es.TerH635was. Then the kingהַמֶּ֔לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428saidוַיֹּ֣אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “Will he evenהֲ֠גַםHa.gamH1571assaultלִכְבּ֧וֹשׁlikh.Bo.oshH3533the queenהַמַּלְכָּ֛הha.mal.KahH4436with me in the houseבַּבָּ֑יִתba.Ba.yitH1004?”As the wordהַדָּבָ֗רha.da.VarH1697wentH3318outH3318of the king’sהַמֶּ֔לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428mouthמִפִּ֣יmi.PiH6310,they coveredחָפֽוּ׃ סcha.FuH2645Haman’sהָמָ֖ןha.ManH2001faceוּפְנֵ֥יu.fe.NeiH6440.

9Then Harbonahחַ֠רְבוֹנָהChar.vo.nahH2726,oneאֶחָ֨ד'e.ChadH259of the eunuchsהַסָּרִיסִ֜יםha.sa.ri.SimH5631who stoodbeforeלִפְנֵ֣יlif.NeiH6440the kingהַמֶּ֗לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428,saidוַיֹּ֣אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “Indeedגַּ֣םgamH1571,beholdהִנֵּה־hi.neh-H2009,the woodenהָעֵ֣ץha.'EtzH6086gallowsstandingעֹמֵד֙'o.MedH5975at Haman’sהָמָ֟ןha.ManH2001houseבְּבֵ֣יתbe.VeitH1004fiftyחֲמִשִּׁ֣יםcha.mi.ShimH2572cubitsאַמָּ֑ה'a.MahH520highגָּבֹ֖הַּga.Vo.ahH1364,whichאֲשֶׁר־'a.Sher-H834Hamanהָמָ֔ןha.ManH2001madeעָשָׂ֪ה'a.SahH6213for Mordecaiלְֽמָרְדֳּכַ֞יle.ma.re.do.KhaiH4782whoאֲשֶׁ֧ר'a.SherH834spokeדִּבֶּר־di.ber-H1696goodט֣וֹבTovH2896inH5921behalfH5921ofH5921the kingהַמֶּ֗לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428!”And the kingהַמֶּ֖לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428saidוַיֹּ֥אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “Hangתְּלֻ֥הוּte.Lu.huH8518him on it.”

10So they hangedוַיִּתְלוּ֙vai.yit.LuH8518Hamanהָמָ֔ןha.ManH2001on the woodenהָעֵ֖ץha.'EtzH6086gallowswhichאֲשֶׁר־'a.Sher-H834he had preparedהֵכִ֣יןhe.KhinH3559for Mordecaiלְמָרְדֳּכָ֑יle.ma.re.do.KhaiH4782,and the king’sהַמֶּ֖לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428angerוַחֲמַ֥תva.cha.MatH2534subsidedשָׁכָֽכָה׃ פsha.Kha.khahH7918.
